Pedophile Tracking Troy, NY Man Gets 10 Years

A Troy man who paid $500 to try to arrange a sexual encounter with a 12-year-old girl will spend the next 10 years in federal prison.

Michael Heppelle, 42, will also face 15 years supervised release following his sentencing Tuesday in U.S. District Court.

On Oct. 3, 2012, Heppelle made plans to meet his would-be victim — unaware the person who set up the meeting was a federal informant, court papers show.

Heppelle, using the fake name “Bob,” spoke with informant spoke on the phone and arranged give the informant $500. In exchange, the informant would provide Heppelle with a 12-year-old girl, the documents said.

They set up a location in Rensselaer County to meet. That’s where investigators arrested Heppelle, who was found carrying the $500 and condoms. He later admitted his plot, according to an FBI agent’s affidavit.

He pleaded guilty in September to attempted online enticement of a minor.

His attorney, Terence L. Kindlon, sent a pre-sentencing memo to Chief Judge Gary Sharpe asking for a lesser sentence, noting his client has no prior record. He stated that Heppelle, a 1991 graduate of Colonie High School, is the father of two children. In 2010, he noted, Heppelle taught pre-school at Trinity Christian Daycare in Albany.

Kindlon wrote that Heppelle “recognizes that he has a serious problem with his attraction to 12- and-13-year-old girls” but is “extremely remorseful, and is thankful that there was no actual minor in this case.”

The Rensselaer County sheriff’s office also was involved in the case.

Wrongful Death Missing Summerfield, NC Man’s Body Found in Trunk

Authorities released the name of the man whose body was found Tuesday dismembered in trash bags inside a vehicle.

Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet identified the remains as Roy Allen Steward, 54, of Bacons Bridge Road.

On Tuesday afternoon, Nisbet was notified by Summerville Police Department that there might be a body in the trunk of a car that had been towed after the driver was arrested for a driving offense, according to Nisbet.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

After inspecting the bags, Nisbet said, it was “obvious the contents of the bags were human remains.”

The remains appeared to be those of Steward, who had been reported missing on Jan. 14 by his brother, who lives in Texas, Nisbet said.

Summerville Police Capt. Jon Rogers said Steward’s roomate, Nancy Bentley, 53, provided false statements to investigators involving the missing person’s case.

A car Bentley had been driving was found at a tow truck company lot by police on Jan. 21, according to Rogers.

Police arrested Bentley at the mobile home she lived in with Steward on Wednesday morning. Neighbors said she was taken away by EMS. Police confirmed she was hospitalized, but Rogers said he did not know why.

Summerville police had reportedly visited the man’s home in an area mobile home park to conduct a welfare check some time ago, but found no trace of him or signs of wrongdoing, a source familiar with the investigation said.

Identity Theft Former IRS Worker Pleads Guilty

Monica Nanette Hernandez, 41, of Fresno was almost a millionaire – for a time.

Ms. Hernandez has pleaded guilty to filing false income tax returns that saw her getting more than $175,000 in refunds from the IRS. She had filed false returns for ten times as much.

She’s also admitted to wire fraud and aggravated identity theft, says U.S. Attorney Benjamin Wagner.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

According to court documents, Ms. Hernandez worked for the IRS Service Center in Fresno as a part-time data entry clerk. While employed in that capacity, she filed three tax returns for herself claiming excessive federal tax withholdings as a result of falsely claimed interest and dividend income.

In addition, in April 2010, Ms. Hernandez stole 68 tax returns from the IRS Service Center and filed fraudulent tax returns using information contained on the stolen tax returns to claim excessive federal tax withholdings. In total, Hernandez attempted to claim more than $1,745,000 in fraudulent tax refunds.

“IRS Criminal Investigation has made investigating refund fraud and identity theft a top priority,” says IRS Special Agent-in-Charge José Martinez, “especially in those situations where individuals with positions of trust commit fraud by taking taxpayer information to file fraudulent tax returns in the name of the stolen identity to obtain a larger tax refund. This resulted in significant harm to those taxpayers whose identities were stolen, as well as a monetary loss against the U.S. Treasury.”

Ms. Hernandez is to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Anthony Ishii on April 14 when she will face a possible maximum statutory penalty for filing false income tax returns of three years in prison and a $250,000 fine, a maximum statutory penalty for wire fraud of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine and a minimum mandatory term of two years in prison to be served consecutively with any other sentence up to a maximum statutory penalty of 15 years in prison for aggravated identity theft.
