Authorities have charged the head of a central New Jersey roofing company with stealing more than $265,000 through alleged insurance fraud.

The state attorney general’s office says Charles Kelcy Pegler Sr., was indicted Thursday for theft by deception, insurance fraud and other charges.

The 55-year-old Spring Lake resident is the president of Roof Diagnostics, Inc., in Wall.

http://liarcatchers.com/insurance_fraud.html

Prosecutors allege he provided false and misleading information to the company’s workers’ compensation carrier.

Prosecutors claim that between 2002 and 2009, Pegler stole from the New Jersey Casualty Insurance Company by creating the false impression that RDI was not a roofing company, that it did not employ roofers and that it did not install, maintain or repair roofs.

It was not immediately known if he has retained an attorney.

Arson Investigation House Fire in Powell County

Officials are not ruling out the possibility of arson at a house fire that destroyed the home early Friday on East College Avenue in Stanton.

Investigators say the vacant home that caught fire around 5:30 a.m. is the third fire the area has seen in a week, which causes some suspicion.

The two fires at outbuildings on Sunday were ruled suspicious by investigators, since there was no electricity in the buildings.

http://liarcatchers.com/arson_investigation.html

The fire was put out in a couple hours Friday morning but started up again shortly after.

Officials said the homeowner told the there we no electrical problems at the home, and neighbors say the home was a vacant rental that was being renovated.

One neighbor says she is concerned about the possibility of an arsonist in the area.

“It all makes us watch out for each other a little bit more,” said. “We have insurance on our home, but a lot of these people don’t have anything. And I just pray that someone isn’t doing that.”

The home is a total loss, officials said, and the owner will have to tear it down and completely rebuild.

Wrongful Death Montgomery County Murder Still Unsolved After 2 Years

This holiday season will be another Christmas with unanswered questions for a Montgomery County family whose loved one was killed in 2011.

52-year-old Paul Brewer was found dead, shot several times in his own bed on Natalie Drive right before Christmas in 2011.

Investigators there was no forced entry and nothing was stolen in his home, what leads them to believe Brewer may have known his killer.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

The same persons of interest continue to be investigated in this case two years later. But police say they may have a new lead in the case.

“We have another person of interest we are looking at. We are trying to track down another female,” said Montgomery County Sheriff Fred Shortridge. “We have the name and the general location where she might be at.”

Officials say they are also still waiting on DNA test results to match with data they have collected.

“Our case is thick. We’ve never stopped investigating this case, we’ve [investigated] continuously for two years. We want to see this solved as well,” Sheriff Shortridge said.

But until then, it’s another holiday for Brewer’s family with unanswered questions.

“The family is contacted us and the daughter calls us this same time every year. We’ve kept her up on what we can with our investigation and what we’re doing,” Shortridge said.

A Central California man has been convicted of raping his two goddaughters and asking a jail inmate to kill them before they could testify at his trial.

Thirty-nine-year-old Felix Nicolas Jr. was sentenced Thursday to 206 years to life in prison. His attorney says he’ll appeal.

Nicolas was convicted of rape, sodomy, oral copulation and other sex crimes and of soliciting murder.

Prosecutors say the Santa Maria man sexually abused his goddaughters for four years beginning in 1999, when they were 8 and 9 years old.

They reported the abuse years later. Nicolas was awaiting trial in 2011 when he asked a fellow Santa Barbara County jail inmate to kill the victims. The inmate told authorities that Nicolas recommended feeding the bodies to sharks.
