Fraud Investigation Georgetown Home Builder Sentenced to 69 Months

A home builder from Georgetown was sentenced to 69 months in federal prison for fraudulently obtaining more than a million dollars in loans from a Frankfort bank.

On Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Gregory Van Tatenhove sentenced 59 year-old Lee C. Tevis for bank fraud, a false loan application, aiding and abetting bank embezzlement and aggravated identity theft.

In August of 2013, after a five day trial, a federal jury convicted Tevis of the offenses and acquitted him of an additional conspiracy charge.

liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

Evidence at trial established that, beginning in 2006, Tevis fraudulently obtained loans from American Founders Bank (AFB), by setting up bogus corporations in the names of other people to bypass loan limits, while constructing a house.

The evidence further establshed that Tevis used some of the loan money, which the bank intended to be used to fund a home in Frankfort, to pay off his personal loans and debt on other construction projects.

According to trial testimony, when Tevis reached loan limits established by the Bank, he set up a bogus corporation in the name of his company’s foreman, an illegal alien, in order to obtain more loans. After fraudulently qualifying for the loans, Tevis used the social security number of the foreman’s five year-old son to pass the bank’s credit check.

Tevis fraudulently received $1,095,000 in loans from the bank, according to the evidence at trial. The Bank eventually foreclosed on the home for which Tevis received the loans and suffered a significant financial loss.

Additionally, Jim Tate, the AFB president who approved the loans for Tevis, pleaded guilty to bank fraud and received a sentence of 36 months in prison.

Under federal law, Tevis must serve at least 85 percent of his prison sentence.

Missing Person Brenda Salas of Rio Rancho, NM

An emotional mother is still waiting for answers about what happened to her missing daughter.

“I feel she is out there somewhere,” Julie Salas said. “I need to believe she is out there.”

An emotional mother is still waiting for answers about what happened to her missing daughter.

Deputies found 27-year-old Brenda Salas’ car out on the mesa west of Rio Rancho a year and a half ago, but Brenda was gone.

Her family said they have been waiting long enough.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Brenda’s mother said she and her family still pass out flyers, hoping someone will know something that might help her find out what happened to Brenda.

“My daughter has been missing for a year and a half now, and I’m worried about her,” Julie said. “I want people out there to know that she is still missing.”

Julie has not heard from her daughter, Brenda, since June of 2012.

“I sit here wondering in the summertime when it’s so hot, I pray that she’s cooled down,” Julie said. “Then I worry because it gets so cold and she is out there.”

Police said Brenda was last seen at the Rio Rancho Walmart on June 13, 2012.

A few weeks later, Sandoval County Sheriff’s deputies found her car stuck out on the mesa, but a search for Brenda turned up nothing.

“This is the last picture she gave to me and her dad,” Julie said, holding the framed photo. “I feel like she knew something was going to happen to her.”

Julie said the last time she heard from Brenda, she said she was going to leave her boyfriend.

Others close to Brenda got a call asking for someone to go with her to meet him, but no one could.

Wherever Brenda is, her family said they know she didn’t run off on her own and they don’t feel like police are doing enough to get to the bottom of it.

“Our family needs justice. We need peace. We need that closure,” said Veronica Garcia, Brenda’s younger sister. “Whether she is dead or alive, they need to bring her home.”

“Until we get some answers and until we find out what has really happened, none of us will rest and we will continue to search for Brenda Salas,” said Claudia Trujillo, Brenda’s friend.

Rio Rancho police are investigating the case. They said it is still open and active, but they wouldn’t release any information on whether or not they’re any closer to finding out what happened to Brenda.

Brenda’s mother said her daughter had just started going to school before her disappearance, and she has two young children.

Private Detective Reward Offered for Madison County Serial Robber

Police are looking for a serial robber they consider armed and dangerous who keeps hitting Madison County businesses.

Police think he’s the same person who has robbed four stores in about two week’s time.

Just before closing, a man wearing a dark jacket with a blue hoodie barged into the Kingston Shell gas station pointing a gun at the two clerks and demanded money. The clerks complied. Then, the suspect took the whole cash tray, and was in and out of the store in less than a minute.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

The suspect’s description is vague, given the fact he covers his face. But police think he’s the same guy who robbed the D and G Food Mart last week, stealing the cash tray. He’s even wearing the same jacket and hoodie.

Photos from a robbery at Bybee Grocery, show the robber’s size, build and method, are practically identical to Tuesday night’s hold up.

The same goes for a robbery at the Richmond Redi Mart last week. The emblem on his sweatshirt is the same, and he grabbed the cash tray.

Until he’s caught, owners and clerks will be looking over their shoulders.

“We’ve been robbed several times over here,” said Wanda Pennington, Kingston Shell owner. “It’s always fearful when they pull a gun and say ‘I want your money,’ so we just want him to be caught before somebody gets hurt.”

The owner of the Kingston Shell is offering a $500 reward for his capture and successful prosecution. Richmond police are also offering a $1,000 reward.

If you know who the man is, contact Richmond Police or Kentucky State Police. They say they’re running down some good leads as we speak.

Wrongful Death Father Accused of Killing Infant Son Sent to Grand Jury

A father accused of murdering his one-month-old son had his case sent to a grand jury Thursday.

Caz Hazuga claims he didn’t kill his son, who died on Thanksgiving morning. He said he woke up to feed little Caz Hazuga, Jr. at 6 a.m. That’s when he says the baby choked on his formula and stopped breathing.

Hazuga says he tried to give him CPR then woke the baby’s mother, she did the same then they took him to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Hazuga says he never intentionally hurt his son, asking why would he hurt a part of himself and that his son is part of himself.

Police say Hazuga admitted to intentionally killing his son by striking his head on the kitchen counter. Hazuga says that story came from detectives. He said they told him the baby had a skull fracture and that he must have hit the baby’s head.

Hazuga says he falsely admitted to the crime because detectives threatened to arrest his fianceé if he didn’t.

A public defender was appointed to Hazuga. The judge in the case refused to set bond for Hazuga in Thursday’s hearing.

Wrongful Death Vultures Lead Police to Woman’s Body

A kettle of vultures lead police to the remains of a what they believe is a woman in the back yard of a Pine Hills home on Laconia Drive in Florida on Tuesday.

“A person was walking their dog, saw the vultures, kind of wandered back to look and see, saw a body and called us,” Jane Watrel with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office told WTEV News.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

The police found clothing and items around the body that led them to believe it is a female and the body had been there for several days. The home had been empty for about six months.

“Saturday night we were in the back yard and we were having the pool cleaned, we smelled something, well I smelled something at that time but I didn’t pay it any attention,” said the next door neighbor, Joy Christopher.

The authorities are listing the death as suspicious.

There has been no recent missing person reports filed in Orange County, although there is a missing person report for Gissell Bedwell, 18, from Lauderhill, Fla., who was last seen around 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6 walking to the Lauderhill Mall located at 1600 N. SR 7. Pine Hill is about three hours away from Lauderhill.

In similar Orange County cases of body’s found, in January 2013, a man’s body was found in the wooded area near the Paddock Mall and in June 2013, Sheriff’s deputies found a decomposing body at an Orange County recycling plant.

In 2012, Joshua Johnson’s body was found inside a vacant Pine Hills home. Witnesses saw him being pulled into a van before he went missing and his death was ruled a homicide. In June of 2012, Jeffery Aaron’s body was found near Donnybrook Park and deputies suspected foul play.

In 2011 a man’s body was found behind the Huntington on the Green condominiums on Downing Street, and his death was ruled a homicide and in October 2011, a woman was found dead in the front yard of a home on Mokoma Drive. Then in July 2011, Lacy Thistlewood, 21, was found in the parking lot of an abandoned building near Exchange Drive and Presidents Drive.

Wrongful Death Teen Pleads Not Guilty in Gas Station Murder

A Lexington teenager accused of gunning down a gas station clerk has answered to a judge for the first time in the case Wednesday.

Mukeshbhai “Mike” Patel, 51, was shot and killed during a robbery at the Marathon station on Alexandria Drive on Monday. On Wednesday, Travis Bredhold, 18, entered a not guilty plea in the case.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Detectives say the surveillance video showed a Nissan Altima leaving the crime scene after the shooting. It was a car that had been reported stolen earlier, and the owner of that car happened to have a photo of the man they believed took it. That photo was later shown to Bredhold’s foster parents, who identified him as the person in the picture.

The 18-year-old was arrested at Fayette Mall Tuesday, where police say they found a loaded handgun, marijuana and nearly $570 in cash.

Missing Person Family Found Safe in Nevada

Chris Montes and his fellow volunteer rescuers first saw what looked to be children’s footprints in the snow. When they saw tire tracks lead into the remote canyon but not back out, they raced ahead until they could make out the overturned Jeep they were searching for in the frigid backcountry.

In minutes a desperate search for a couple and four children missing for two days in the below-zero cold of Nevada’s rugged mountains turned to jubilation as rescuers guided in part by cellphone signals found the family alive and well, huddled around a fire near their overturned vehicle.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

“It’s a miracle. It really is,” Pershing County Sheriff Richard Machado said outside the hospital Tuesday where all six were resting comfortably with not even so much as a case of frost bite.

“This is better than I could ever have imagined,” added Dr. Douglas Vacek. “With the temperatures we’ve seen the last couple of nights, I’ve been very, very, very worried.”

About 200 people had searched by land and air after the group of six failed to return Sunday from a trip to play in the snow near their hometown of Lovelock in Nevada’s high desert about 100 miles northeast of Reno.

“They stayed together and that was the key that allowed them to live through this experience. You don’t see that that often in search and rescue,” said Paul Burke, search-and-rescue coordinator for the state. “They did some pretty inventive things, heating up rocks and things. Staying together, that was a big deal.”

Rescuers started scouring the wilderness from the air and on the ground on Sunday night in search of James Glanton, 34, his girlfriend Christina McIntee, 25, their two children Evan and Chloe Glanton, and Shelby Fitzpatrick and Tate McIntee, a niece and nephew of Christina McIntee. The children ranged in age from 3 to 10.

Montes, a longtime friend of James Glanton who hunts in the area, said he didn’t know who was more relieved, the rescuers or the rescued. He said the vehicle would no longer run once it rolled down an embankment, but the family stayed in the upside-down vehicle for shelter, burning the spare tire to keep warm.

“I think everybody was thinking the worst for a little bit,” Montes said. “But it’s a small tight-knit community and everybody in town was out there looking for them.”

“They just said that they knew somebody was going to find them,” he said.

The situation became dire as time passed without any sight of the missing party, the temperature plummeting to 16-below early Monday and 10-below early Tuesday.

“Everybody was worried about the sub-zero temperatures,” said Patty Bianchi, CEO of Pershing General Hospital.

“Their father kept them alive and well,” she said. “Everybody is in good shape. There was no frost bite. They are stable. They suffered a little exposure and dehydration, but that is all.”

News of their rescue drew instant reaction.

“Very glad to hear the missing family in Lovelock has been found and they are safe!” Gov. Brian Sandoval tweeted. “Thank you to all who worked so tirelessly to find them!”

The Seven Troughs area is named after a series of seven parallel canyons below Seven Trough Peak — elevation 7,474 feet — in the Kamma Mountains stretching north across the Pershing-Humboldt county line. It’s about 20 miles southeast of Black Rock Desert, where the annual Burning Man counterculture festival is held.

Glanton’s Jeep had overturned just off the road, but it wasn’t clear what caused it to flip over.

About 100 well-wishers lined the street outside the hospital and broke into cheers when two of the smallest children were taken from an ambulance Tuesday afternoon. The others walked into the hospital on their own.

“The mood where I’m at’s ecstatic,” said Col. Tim Hahn of the Civil Air Patrol, which used several planes to search for the group. “We are thrilled beyond words.”

Wrongful Death Additional Info on Murder of Gas Station Clerk

Court documents reveal more details about the murder of a Lexington gas station clerk.

Police arrested Travis Bredhold, 18, in Fayette Mall Tuesday and charged him with the murder of Mukeshbhai Patel, 51. According to court documents, surveillance video shows Bredhold inside the Marathon station on Alexandria Drive early Tuesday morning demanding cash and then shooting Patel. Police say Bredhold left the scene in a stolen Nissan Altima.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Police located that car abandoned later. Officers say they found clothes worn in the robbery inside.

An alert officer spotted the suspect in Fayette Mall later Tuesday.

“One of the officers who was in the area recognized him because the picture was distributed to all of our officers, and was able to serve the arrest warrant,” said Lexington Police Department spokesperson Sherelle Roberts said.

Police say they found a marijuana pipe and a scale inside a bag Bredhold was carrying when they arrested him. They say they also found a loaded .380 handgun and more than $550 cash in his pockets.

Bredhold faces a long list of charges including murder, theft by unlawful taking, robbery, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, illegally carrying a concealed weapon and trafficking marijuana.
