Los Angeles police are looking for a 22-year-old man who disappeared Tuesday night while walking his dog, which returned to his South L.A. home dragging a bloody leash, the man’s fiance said.

Darwin Vela, 22, left his home in the 2900 block of South Redondo Boulevard about 9 p.m., police said. His fiance, Kelly McLaren, said she skipped their usual walk so she could shower.

“When I came out, I heard the dog crying,” McLaren said. “He was outside alone and Darwin wasn’t there.”

The 90-pound chocolate Lab was “cowering,” McLaren said. When she noticed blood on its leash, she called 911 “right away.”

Officers searched the area, she said, and although a bloodhound briefly traced his scent, police found no sign of Vela. McLaren said he left his cellphone, wallet and keys at home and has not contacted family or friends.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is searching for a man last seen on Monday.

The rental car 26-year-old Dwight L. Martin was driving was found abandoned in the Arlington area earlier this week.

Martin has not been seen or heard from by his family and friends since Monday, November 18, 2013.

Police say a woman was sexually assaulted at a Danville street Thursday night, along side the Walmart.

The woman told officers the man was in his 40s to early 50s.

“I think we should all be concerned about that,” said resident Alfred Smith.

Especially for Alfred Smith who says he’s concerned for the women in his family and for others in the community.

“I’m very protective of my family,” he said. “I’ve always been that person who has been a family man. And if you love your family you’re going to protect them and it’s hard to say what I might do.”

Police are looking for a man with a medium build, brown eyes and gaps in his front teeth. But the most detailed description was the vehicle. Officers say it’s a green pick up with a white stripe all the way around it.

Concerned citizens hope that’s enough to nab the man who did this.

Las Vegas police are asking for the public’s help in locating a 25-year-old man who may be in need of medical assistance.

Herman Clemons left his house near J Street and Lake Mead Boulevard Thursday between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., police said.

Clemons, who is 5 feet 11 inches and 135 pounds, was last seen wearing grey sweat pants, black shoes and a blue sweatshirt.

Police said Clemons has been diagnosed with “diminished mental capacity” and may be lost and in need of medical assistance.

A Nelson County preacher accused of stealing thousands of dollars from his church has apparently skipped town.

Nelson County pastor Dylan Mays was indicted Wednesday on charges he stole more than $80,000 from the Bardstown Baptist Church. Mays was pastor there for eight years.

Police are now looking for Mays, but the church says he resigned last month and left Kentucky.

A man police say raped a 92-year-old woman was indicted in the case Friday.

Back in June, an elderly woman was robbed, raped, and beaten in her apartment in Stanford. Police said at the time they had a person of interest, but DNA results that were returned last week gave them the evidence to charge Kevin Higgins, 27, in the case.

Higgins was not initially arrested for the alleged rape, but for burglary charges reported the following night. Investigators say DNA evidence in the rape matches up to Higgins. Police say evidence indicates Higgins broke into the 92-year-old woman’s home, and beat, robbed and raped her. The victim required hospitalization.

Higgins already faces several other charges, including burglary, theft by unlawful taking and fleeing police.

A Raleigh County man was arrested by Fayette County deputies on multiple counts of sex crimes and filming child pornography.

26 year-old Isaac Thompson Broyles of Beckley turned himself into the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office around 5:30 Thursday night after an extensive investigation beginning in late April 2013.

A female juvenile from the Ansted area reported that she was involved in a relationship with an adult male in the Beckley area. The female was around 14 to 15 years old at the time these alleged crimes occurred and after an interview at Child and Youth Advocacy Center in Oak Hill an investigation began.

Thursday afternoon investigators from multiple law enforcement agencies executed a search warrant into Broyles home in Beckley. They found some evidence that indicated some of the criminal activity occurred in both counties.

Broyles is being charged with one count of Third Degree Sexual Assault, one count of Use of a Minor in Filming Sexually Explicit Conduct, 10 counts of Distribution of Material Depicting Minors Engaged in Sexually Explicit Conduct and 28 counts of Soliciting a Minor via computer. All 40 of these charges are felonies.

Broyles was arraigned in the Magistrate Court of Fayette County but has since been released on $80,000 bond. The case remains under investigation by Detective-Corporal J. M. Pack and the Detective Bureau of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. If anyone has any information regarding the case they are asked to call the Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau at (304)574-4267.

Police in Nampa hope the public can help to identify a person of interest in connection to the disappearance of a Washington woman.

Estela Rios-Gonzalez, 30, went missing from Yakima, Washington in early October. She was last seen with her ex-boyfriend, 40-year-old German Garcia-Calleja.

Rios-Gonzalez’s van was found abandoned at a Garden City McDonald’s on October 25. Since then, police in the Treasure Valley have been assisting in the search for the couple.

Nampa Police say Rios-Gonzalez was dropped off at a convenience store on October 3. Investigators believe she spoke with several people and was trying to get a ride out of state.

According to police, surveillance footage from the store shows Rios-Gonzalez speaking with a man for several minutes. Detectives are now hoping someone will come forward to identify the man.

A Missing Endangered Person Advisory has been issued by the Montana Attorney General’s Office for three missing children who are believed to be in the company of their non-custodial father.

Flathead Tribal Police are now looking for Kortney Gene Duback, 30, and his three, non-custodial children.

The children are Nevaeh Duback, 3, a Native American girl who is 3’3″ tall, weighs 43 pounds, has brown hair and brown eyes.

Justin Duback, 5, is a Native American boy who is 3’9″ tall, weighs 45 pounds, has brown hair and brown eyes.

Kallie Duback, 7, is a Native American girl who is 3’10” tall, weighs 53 pounds, has brown hair and brown eyes.

The father is Kortney Gene Duback, 30, who is described as a white/Native American male, who is 5’11” tall, weighs 165 pounds, has brown hair and brown eyes.

Gene Duback has tattoos on his neck, back, abdomen, chest, right arm and right shoulder.

Authorities say he has multiple misdemeanor warrants and a history of substance abuse. He could possibly be driving a black 2000 Toyota Camry with Montana license 15-0361C.

A Massachusetts man facing charges of sexually abusing 13 children, including a newborn, offered on Wednesday to have himself castrated in exchange for a lighter prison sentence.

John Burbine, 50, was arrested in September 2012, and faces 100 criminal counts related to sexual assault of children, ranging in age from 8 days to 3-1/2 years, to whom he gained access through his wife’s unlicensed day-care business.

His attorney, William Barabino, said he made the suggestion in a pretrial hearing in hopes it would keep his client from spending the rest of his life in prison. He likened the proposal to people facing alcohol or drug-related charges agreeing to seek treatment in exchange for a more lenient sentence.

“His inability to conform his desires, or his behaviour, is all oriented towards sex, and so what we said is: ‘What about treatment?”’ Barabino explained in a phone interview. “We would put forth a bilateral orchiectomy, which is essentially taking out the testicles.”

Barabino said his client would agree to having the surgical procedure only if he was assured of receiving a lighter sentence in exchange.

The Middlesex County District Attorney’s office, which is prosecuting Burbine, declined to comment on the proposal.

“As with all criminal matters, we are precluded by the rules of professional conduct from commenting on the existence or details of any plea negotiations,” said MaryBeth Long, a spokeswoman for the district attorney.

A judge denied the request.

It is rare for a defendant in a sex-crimes trial to make such an offer, which is seen as something of a desperation move, said James Cohen, an associate professor of law at Fordham University School of Law in New York.

“It comes up when a defense attorney is in a very hard place, and the defendant doesn’t want to go to jail,” Cohen said. “Jails are not particularly receptive to sex offenders and even less so to sex offenders of very young children.”

Judges tend to shy away from agreeing to such proposals both because they may not deter future offenses and because they raise questions of unjust punishment, he added.

“There is that tension between treating it as treatment and as punishment for the offense committed, and somehow not wanting to get into ‘I punched somebody and broke their nose in a bad way and then one of my fingers gets cut off,”’ Cohen said. “You don’t want to go there.”
