Missing Person Zoe Campos of Lubbock, TX

The distraught family of an 18-year-old Lubbock woman said they remain hopeful she will return safely.

Lubbock police officials believe Zoe Campos, who was reported missing since early Monday morning, Nov. 18, may be in danger.

Campos has brown hair and brown eyes, is about 5 feet tall and weighs about 100 pounds. She was last seen wearing black pants a light mint-green corset and a black jacket.

Lubbock Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jason Lewis said he could not elaborate on what indicated the danger.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Campos was last seen about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, according to her older sister, Savannah.

Savannah said they watched a movie at their home in the 3500 block of 50th Street before she went to bed.

Melinda Campos said her daughter was supposed to pick her up from work about 2 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18, at an East 34th Street bar, but she never showed up.

“The last text that I received from her was between 2:30 a.m. and 2:39 a.m. saying she was on her way to see me to pick me up,” Campos said.

Her phone calls were never returned and are all going straight to voice mail.

Other family members and friends have not heard from Zoe, and it has filled Melinda Campos with anxiety and fear.

“I’m very scared for her,” she said.

Savannah Campos said her sister always kept in contact with her family.

“So it’s weird that her phone was off this long,” she said. “It’s weird that she hasn’t come back yet. This isn’t like my sister.”

After filing a report with the police Monday, Melinda said officers told her to wait it out, hinting that Zoe might have run away.

“If they knew her like we knew her, (they’d know) that’s not (like) her,” she said.

The Police Department’s tone changed Tuesday night after officers found the abandoned 1997 silver Lincoln Town Car that Zoe was supposed to fetch her mother in, according to Melinda Campos.

Campos said her sister spotted Zoe’s car being driven by an unidentified man.

After a brief chase, the man abandoned the vehicle at the Driftwood Apartments in the 5500 block of Utica Avenue.

Melinda Campos said she hoped she would find her daughter by the vehicle.

“It gave me a lot of hope that the next step was going to be Zoe was going to be right there, and we’re still waiting; we’re still waiting,” she said.

All police officers found was Zoe’s black jacket in the trunk and her phone charger in the back seat.

“Zoe’s very attached to her phone, so for it to be off with her charger in her back seat, it just sends up red flags to us,” her mother said.

Savannah Campos described her sister as a laid-back person who kept to herself.

Melinda Campos said her daughter loved being with her sister and her sister’s children.

Both women said Zoe’s social circle was limited to her older sister, a cousin and a friend.

“She wasn’t the type of person that would go out to parties or clubs or anything like that,” Melinda Campos said. “If she did go to a party it was with a friend and that was very rare.”

She said her daughter planned to graduate from Matthews Alternative High School in December and study to become a mechanic.

Her daughter bought the Lincoln to fix it up, she said.

“She was real excited about fixing it up and making it hers,” she said.

Savannah Campos said her younger sister’s plans were influenced by relatives who were good with cars.

“And that’s something she took an interest in,” Melinda Campos said.

Family members have used fliers and social media to raise awareness about the 18-year-old.

“Hopefully somebody will see her or remember that they saw her and give us any little bit of a clue,” Melinda Campos said.

Zoe’s father, a Marine serving in Afghanistan, is making his way home to be with his family, she said.

“He’s scared to death,” she said.

She hopes her daughter will show up before then and the family is holding on to the hope that Zoe is safe.

“Right now that’s all we have,” Savannah Campos said. “We’re just trying to hope and pray that she’s going to walk through that door or call and say, ‘Come get me.’ ”

Identity Theft Lancaster, CA Man Gets 2 Years

A Lancaster, Calif., man will spend two years in federal prison for trying in April to use false identification documents to loot another man’s bank account.

Auston Chad Cohen, 29, received the sentence Thursday, Nov. 21, from U.S. District Judge Sam R. Cummings.

Cummings ordered him to spend a year on supervised release after he finishes his sentence.

Cohen also must pay $27,800 in restitution to Wells Fargo Bank.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

Two years is the maximum federal sentence for aggravated identity theft.

Lubbock police arrested Cohen on April 6 at the Wells Fargo in-store branch at the United Supermarket at 50th Street and Avenue Q, where he had tried to withdraw $25,000 from the bank account of another California man, Erick Lee.

According to police reports of his arrest, Cohen had tapped Lee’s account at a Wells Fargo branch in Amarillo for $7,500 the day before.

In addition to the aggravated identity theft charge, a federal grand jury indicted him about two weeks after his arrest on charges of fraudulent use of an access device containing more than $1,000, false representation of a Social Security card, a second count of aggravated identity theft and one count of identity theft.

A bank employee contacted police, and Cohen was arrested when the officer determined birth date on a driver’s license in Lee’s name didn’t match up with Cohen’s age, court documents state.

Private Detective Flesh Eatting Drug Krokodil

A newly reported case of krokodil in Ohio has a local sheriff offering drug users shocking advice.

A needle drug user in Athens County who had pus-filled, scaly scars where she had injected told detectives that she bought what she thought was heroin from a dealer who had in turn got his supply from Columbus.

After seeing the wounds, Athens County Sheriff Patrick Kelly told 10TV that he’s convinced the drug she got was krokodil, an injectable heroin substitute with impurities that destroy blood vessels and cause flesh to rot off the bone. That concern has led the sheriff to advise users to get their drugs from a source that they trust.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

“I’m hoping that they won’t use heroin at all, but I’m not that naive. To say ‘get your heroin from a trusted source’ sounds ridiculous coming from a sheriff,” Kelly told the station. “But if you’re going to have to get your fix, you’re not going to want to get ahold of krokodil.”

Krokodil, a street drug that is made by cooking crushed codeine pills with household substances like paint thinner or gasoline, leaves green, scaly scars on users. Although multiple cases of the drug have been reported by doctors and local law enforcement across North America since September, the Drug Enforcement Administration has yet to confirm that the drug is present in the United States.

In order for the DEA to confirm krokodil’s presence in the United States, agents would have to catch the drug in production or confirm the presence of desomorphine (the active ingredient in krokodil) and household hydrocarbons in a sample, an agency spokesman told The Huffington Post on Friday.

But to Kelly, the threat is real and a cause for concern.

“I’ve been worried about methamphetamine and heroin for years,” Kelly told the station. “This just gives us another drug to be worried about.”

Officials skeptical of the drug, which was first reported in Russia several years ago, have suggested that the sores on users’ skin could come from bacterial infections spread by using dirty needles.

If that is the case, harm-reduction practices such as using clean needles from needle exchanges could help reduce the incidence of the gangrenous sores. But with krokodil, the damage to the body occurs from the impurities in the drug itself.

“If it’s on the table of our drug users, it’s gonna get out there,” Roger Lowe, who runs a traveling needle exchange in Northeastern Ohio, told WKYC in October. “I think we’re gonna see more of it and I’m terrified of what’s gonna happen.”

Missing Person Body of Missing Baby Found in NM Desert

A 5-month-old boy missing from El Paso since last week is believed to have been found in the desert near U.S. 54 in southern New Mexico on Wednesday — the same day the baby’s father was returned to El Paso from Michigan and held on a $1.5 million bond, the El Paso Times reported.

The boy’s remains, believed to be those of 5-month-old Jackson Farrey, were found a quarter of a mile west of U.S. 54 in Orogrande, near McGregor Range and in an area commonly used for military training, the Times said.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

The boy’s father, Army Spc. Jeffrey Farrey, 22, was being held in El Paso County Jail, the paper reported.

Police were working to confirm whether the remains were those of Jackson Farrey, who was reported missing from his El Paso home last week along with his parents and his 19-month-old brother, Blake Farrey, the Times said.

The mother, father and 19-month-old were found and taken into custody in Michigan on Sunday, and the 5-month-old boy was not with them, according to the Times.

On Wednesday, representatives of the FBI, New Mexico State Police, Border Patrol and El Paso police were in Orogrande recovering the remains, which would be taken to the state Office of the Medical Investigator in Albuquerque to determine the identity of the remains and the cause of death, El Paso police spokesman Darrel Petry told the paper.

Fort Bliss officials said in a news release that Jeffrey Farrey was extradited from Michigan to El Paso on Wednesday, then transferred to El Paso police. Farrey is assigned to the 1st Battalion, 41st Infantry Regiment, Third Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss and was scheduled to deploy to Afghanistan this winter, the Times said.

The missing boy’s mother, 20-year-old Jenna Farrey, was still in custody in Michigan, and Blake Farrey was in the custody of Child Protective Services in Michigan.

Identity Theft San Francisco Woman Arrested

A San Francisco woman was arrested on a series of identity theft charges after she was found with stolen property and multiple fake identifications while trying to rent a car at the airport, authorities said.

Denise Rohrbach, 29, was arrested Wednesday at the rental car facility at San Francisco International Airport, where officers arrived as she was reportedly trying to rent a car with a fake ID, San Mateo County Sheriff’s Deputy Rebecca Rosenblatt said.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

Officers booked Rohrbach into custody about 10:40 p.m. after she presented them with false identification, and they went on to find a slew of other fake IDs, altered personal checks and credit cards in names that weren’t hers, Rosenblatt said.

In addition to the fraudulent items, authorities found her in possession of methamphetamine and other pieces of drug paraphernalia, and booked her into jail on charges of burglary, identity theft, possession of fraudulent documents, attempted auto theft, possession of stolen property and providing false information to a peace officer.

Upon her arrest, officers discovered at least six additional victims whose identity had been stolen by Rohrbach, Rosenblatt said. She remains in custody at San Mateo County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Fraud Investigation 4 Charged in Colorado for Voter Fraud

The Arapahoe County district attorney’s office has charged four people with misdemeanors after a voter-fraud investigation that tracked more than 40 people and election records dating back to 2008.

Two of the people charged are immigrants — one from Africa who has donated to Democratic causes, the other from Poland — who have been deemed ineligible to vote in Colorado. The other two are Coloradans who worked for a liberal non-profit organization that registered people to vote.

All four are charged with “procuring false registration,” according to a news release Friday from Arapahoe County District Attorney George Brauchler’s office. The office investigated 41 “non-citizens.”

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

“This is evidence that this is not an epidemic, but there are isolated incidents that need to be treated seriously,” Brauchler said.

The investigation began in July after Republican Secretary of State Scott Gessler referred 155 cases of “non-citizen voters” to 15 district attorneys statewide. Brauchler assigned six investigators who worked more than 300 hours to go through the 41 names in his district.

That information led investigators to Work for Progress, a national nonprofit that formed in 2008 and hires canvassers to register voters. Investigators served the group with a warrant at its office in LoDo in a building shared by other liberal groups, including Environment Colorado and ProgressNowColorado, which has since moved.

Work for Progress could not be reached for comment. ProgressNow’s executive director, Amy Runyon-Harms, says her organization has never been affiliated or worked with Work for Progress.

The district attorney charged canvassers Michael Michaelis, 41, of Brighton, and Carl Blocker, 51.

Michaelis was employed by Work for Progress, while Blocker was employed by one of its subcontractors, Grass Roots Voter Outreach, according to the release.

Blocker has been in jail in Fairplay since August on a parole violation hold, according to a Park County jail official. Colorado Bureau of Investigation records show he has been arrested on various charges, including burglary and drug possession.

The two non-citizens who were charged are Tadesse Degefa, 72, and Vitaliy Grabchenko, 47, both of Aurora.

Degefa donated $100 to Hickenlooper’s 2010 campaign and $100 to the Arapahoe County Democratic Party, secretary of state records show. He also has donated to President Obama and a committee that works to elect Democrats to Congress, according to online campaign contribution websites.

None of the four charged could be reached for comment.

Arapahoe County so far is the only jurisdiction that has charged anyone, according to Gessler spokesman Andrew Cole, although some district attorneys did find instances of non-citizens voting.

“I appreciate District Attorney Brauchler’s good work,” Gessler said Friday.

“This news further confirms that there is a vulnerability in the system and is more evidence from across the state showing that confusion and error allow non-citizens to register, and in some cases vote. We know 600 ineligible registrations have been canceled for non-citizenship since we began looking into this. These cases are just one more part our efforts to improve election integrity in Colorado.”

Gessler made national headlines in 2011 when he testified before Congress that 11,805 people had shown “non-citizen” documents when they applied for a Colorado driver’s license, and almost 5,000 of them had voted in 2010, when control of the state House and the winner of a U.S. Senate seat were decided by close votes.

He has been criticized by county clerks in his own party and Democrats for his statements and efforts regarding non-citizen voters. Among them, Democratic political consultant Steve Welchert, who called the investigation “massive overkill.”

“These guys are in search of a problem,” he said.

Brauchler, a Republican who took office in January, disagreed.

“We’re not talking about a traffic offense here,” he said. “We’re talking about somebody’s right to participate in the democratic process.”

The 18th Judicial District covers Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert and Lincoln counties. No names were submitted from Elbert and Lincoln, four were from Douglas and the rest from Arapahoe, the DA’ s office said in the release.

In Douglas County, all four voters turned out to be eligible.

“Once this determination was made, investigators thanked them for their time and assured them that their constitutional right to vote would not be affected in any way in the future,” the release states.

Of the other 37 in Arapahoe County, 17 were deemed eligible, eight could not be located and two were ineligible. Ten voters were “potentially” ineligible, but were not charged.

“There was no proof beyond a reasonable doubt that they had illegally registered, and in some cases had been misled as to their right to vote or did not understand the process and therefore did not possess criminal intent to commit a crime,” the release says.
