Wrongful Death Lexington Murder Victim Knew Attacker

A Knox County man with an extensive criminal record is now facing his most serious charges yet.

Lexington Police arrested Henry Stacy Thursday night charging him with last Friday’s murder of a navy veteran.

“The victim had been stabbed multiple times and we knew there was a suspect out there,” said Sharelle Roberts with Lexington Police.

Using witnesses in the neighborhood who reported seeing a suspicious man, police released a composite sketch of the suspect. Thursday night, they arrested 40-year-old Henry Stacy.

Authorities say Tom Rogers knew Stacy, though, they wouldn’t be more specific. LEX 18 also learned law enforcement across the Commonwealth knew the accused. He’s what they call a career criminal.

Before his arrest Thursday night, a warrant says Stacy took his truck and had it crushed at a salvage yard. He also allegedly sold some of the jewelry and a gun he’d stolen from Tom Rogers and bought drugs.

Though Henry denied any involvement in Roger’s murder to police, he allegedly told a friend he went in to rob the place, but ended up killing a man.

One of Roger’s daughters wrote this on her Facebook page, not long after word of an arrest: “The police in Lexington made an arrest last evening. While it does nothing to ease the pain, it will hopefully ease Susanne’s fears while in their home. Thank you again to everyone for all of your love, prayers and support in this unbearably difficult time.”

Tom Rogers was buried Wednesday.

Wrongful Death Double Murder-Suicide in Meade County

Three people are dead in Meade County, including the son of a Sheriff’s Deputy, after a double murder-suicide.

13-year-old Tucker Wimpee, his mother Ellen Cain, and her boyfriend Earle Trippe, were found dead inside Trippe’s home on Otter View Court Friday morning.

State Police say Trippe killed Tucker, and then Ellen when she tried to intervene. And finally, himself.

A former neighbor, Stacy Pike, says she knew little about Earle or Ellen. But Tucker, she says, was a regular at her home. She calls him an honor student who idolized his father, Meade County deputy and high school resource officer, Phillip Wimpee.

“He wanted to be like his dad, running and chasing the kids. They had a jail out back and everything,” she said. “[This is] selfish… to take someone’s life because of your own mess?”

Court records show a 7-year-standing order for Tripp to keep away when his girlfriend and her ex were exchanging custody of their children.

Accident Reconstruction 7 Hurt in Powel County Accident

Seven people were hurt, and two of them had life threatening injuries, after a crash in Powell County on Thursday.

The four vehicle wreck happened on Hardwicks Creek Road about a mile South of Clay City. Sadly, LEX 18 News found out this isn’t the first tragedy on this stretch of road.

There was mangled metal, wrecked cars, and more than half a dozen people hurt. However, it’s a sight people on Hardwicks Creek road are used to seeing.

“This is a dangerous stretch of road,” said Stanton Fire Chief Eddie Barnes. “There’s been probably four or five people killed up through here in the last two years,” added David Patrick, who lives next to where Thursday’s crash happened.

http://liarcatchers.com/accident_reconstruction.html

Investigators said it all started around 4:30 p.m. when three teens in a white mustang went too fast around a curve. “My grandson, he just got in from school and he said that he heard loud cars squealing and a loud racket,” said Patrick. The noise was the mustang hitting a van that was towing a truck in the other lane.

“Kind of side swiped them, and according to witnesses it was about like a sling shot affect and pushed him over into the red car head on,” said Barnes. The crash was so bad emergency officials had to call in back up ambulances.

Firefighters said the man and the woman in the red car suffered life threatening head injuries and had to be air lifted to UK Hospital. One of the teens also had serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to Lexington. The other four people involved in the wreck went to Clark Regional Hospital in Winchester, but should be okay.

“It could have been worse, of course worse being death, but let’s hope everybody makes it,” said Barnes. “I hope all of them are okay and they survive. And maybe they will get a second chance and be a little bit more careful next time,” added Patrick.

Emergency officials said one person in the white mustang was not wearing a seat-belt. As of Thursday night it was not clear if there were contributing factors other than speed.

Fraud Investigation Disaster Fraud Hotline Following Typhoon Haiyan

WASHINGTON—The Department of Justice, the FBI, and the National Center for Disaster Fraud (NCDF) remind the public that there is a potential for disaster fraud in the aftermath of a natural disaster. Suspected fraudulent activity pertaining to relief efforts associated with Typhoon Haiyan should be reported to the toll-free NCDF hotline at 866-720-5721. The hotline is staffed by a live operator 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for the purpose of reporting suspected scams being perpetrated by criminals in the aftermath of disasters.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

NCDF was originally established in 2005 by the Department of Justice to investigate, prosecute, and deter fraud associated with federal disaster relief programs following Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Wilma. Its mission has expanded to include suspected fraud related to any natural or man-made disaster. More than 20 federal agencies—including the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, U.S. Attorney’s Offices, Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General, FBI, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and the U.S. Secret Service—participate in the NCDF, allowing the center to act as a centralized clearinghouse of information related to disaster relief fraud.

In the wake of natural disasters, many individuals feel moved to contribute to victim assistance programs and organizations across the country. The Department of Justice and the FBI remind the public to apply a critical eye and conduct due diligence before giving to anyone soliciting donations on behalf of hurricane victims. Solicitations can originate as e-mails, websites, door-to-door collections, mailings, telephone calls, and similar methods.

Before making a donation of any kind, consumers should adhere to certain guidelines, including the following:

  • Do not respond to any unsolicited (spam) incoming e-mails, including by clicking links contained within those messages, because they may contain computer viruses.
  • Be cautious of individuals representing themselves as victims or officials asking for donations via e-mail or social networking sites.
  • Beware of organizations with copycat names similar to but not exactly the same as those of reputable charities.
  • Rather than following a purported link to a website, verify the existence and legitimacy of non-profit organizations by using Internet-based resources.
  • Be cautious of e-mails that claim to show pictures of the disaster areas in attached files, because those files may contain viruses. Only open attachments from known senders.
  • To ensure that contributions are received and used for intended purposes, make donations directly to known organizations rather than relying on others to make the donation on your behalf.
  • Do not be pressured into making contributions; reputable charities do not use coercive tactics.
  • Do not give your personal or financial information to anyone who solicits contributions. Providing such information may compromise your identity and make you vulnerable to identity theft.
  • Avoid cash donations if possible. Pay by debit or credit card, or write a check directly to the charity. Do not make checks payable to individuals.
  • Legitimate charities do not normally solicit donations via money transfer services.
  • Most legitimate charities maintain websites ending in .org rather than .com.

If you believe that you have been a victim of fraud by a person or organization soliciting relief funds on behalf of disaster victims, contact the NCDF by phone at (866) 720-5721, fax at (225) 334-4707, or e-mail at disaster@leo.gov.

You can also report suspicious e-mail solicitations or fraudulent websites to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov.
