Wrongful Death Additional Details in Danville Murders

LEX 18 News obtained court documents from last month’s triple murder in Danville, and they describe more disturbing details of the crime.

Less then a week ago police arrested Pastor Kenneth Keith and charged him with killing Mike and Angela Hockensmith in front of their two children and murdering their client, Daniel Smith.

Kenneth Keith is a Pulaski County pastor and a former U.S. Army Green Beret with no criminal history. According to court documents, an anonymous call to Danville Police from a Michigan man who knew the victims and Keith, led to his arrest.

On Friday September 20th Mike and Angela Hockensmith, and Daniel Smith were shot to death around 9:00 a.m. at Abc Gold Games and More in Danville. Keith used to own a different business at the same location until this summer. Court records show police found 14 spent shell casings, three live cartridges, and more than a thousand dollars left in the cash register at the crime scene.

According to court documents the anonymous call from Michigan came four days after the murders. The caller said he had talked with Keith, and Keith told him he was devastated about the deaths, but then detailed what he was doing that same day. The caller said Keith explained that he was in Lexington at the VA Hospital, then in Danville filling a prescription during the shootings. LEX 18 news learned from the documents that a former business partner called Keith and was concerned that he matched the description given by police. Keith allegedly told the ex-partner that he was at the Good Neighbor Pharmacy at the time of the murders. However, court documents show Keith missed that doctor’s appointment and was at a Danville pharmacy filling a prescription seven minutes after the 911 call reporting the shootings.

Surveillance video shows a van matching Keith’s vehicle, driving toward the store at around 8:45 a.m the morning of the murders, then driving away around 30 minutes later. According to the documents, Keith was seen later that morning at a Somerset carwash, getting the inside and outside of his minivan washed and detailed.

The Michigan caller also told police Keith knew Daniel Smith carried 30-40 thousand dollars and did business at the store on Fridays. According to the caller, Keith said he believed Smith was killed by a hitman, but when the caller asked keith if he thought the Hockensmiths were innocent bystanders, the caller said Keith “flipped a switch” and said they weren’t innocent, adding they had cost him a lot of money.

According to court documents, Keith owns several guns and had more than a dozen guns at his store in Pulaski county.

The FBI says there was cell phone activity on the phone of the missing NH teen, around the time she went missing.

The FBI has not released any additional information about the cell phone activity.

The 15-year-old left Kennett High School around 2:30 Wednesday afternoon and the police believe she made it home. But when her mother arrived at their house, the girl was gone.

Wrongful Death Man Fatally Stabbed Family Member

A family disturbance took a deadly turn early Monday morning, resulting one man’s death.

Police say the 34-year-old victim was stabbed by another family member. He later died at the hospital.

Officers received the call just before 2 a.m. The 100 block of North Chelton, where the incident happened, was blocked off for a few hours.

Police say they have identified the suspect or suspects in the case, but have not placed anyone in custody.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

The county coroner has ruled the death a homicide, making it the 26th homicide in Colorado Springs this year. That’s four more than there were in all of 2012.

2011 has the dubious distinction of having the most homicides ever in one year in Colorado Springs. There were 32 homicides that year.

Private Detective 4 Arrested in Richmond Kidnapping Case

Four men in Madison County have been arrested after police say they were involved in a kidnapping of a woman Sunday.

Police in Richmond have arrested James Fleming, 32, Marcus Rogers, 24, David West, 23 and Antwon Brown, 30. All four are charged with kidnapping an adult.

According to police, the situation began when the alleged victim, Paula Fritz, says she got into a car with a friend who said she needed help. That’s when Fritz says she realized there was a man hiding underneath one of the seats in the vehicle. Fritz says she was told she knew where someone lived who had allegedly robbed the friend.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

Fritz says she tried to get out of the vehicle, but was eventually taken to a house, where she was held for hours. She told LEX 18 that she was forced into a vehicle with guns and driven around until her brother and mother realized something was wrong and called for help.

The vehicle they were in was pulled over along I-75, late Sunday night. Police say the suspects threw guns out of the windows of the vehicle and there were drugs inside the car.

The men were arrested and Fritz was freed.

“I have babies,” said Fritz. “They could’ve lost their mother for something in we nothing about. Just because they thought I knew where somebody else lived. Nobody deserves to go through that, especially if they don’t know the situation.”

All four men are due in court Wednesday.

Drug Dog Sweep 2 Arrested in Wildomar, CA

Two probationers were arrested separately on drug charges in Wildomar, a sheriff’s sergeant said today.

Sheriff’s deputies Friday night went to an apartment building in the 24800 block of Prielipp Road to check on a probationer. A police dog uncovered methamphetamine, heroin and paraphernalia inside a unit, Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. David Cardoza said.

Marcia Lynn Radnoti, 50, of Wildomar, was arrested for allegedly possessing the drugs for sales and committing a felony while on out on bail, Cardoza said.

A follow-up investigation led the  deputies to also search for a second probationer at a home in Meadowbrook, where the occupant appeared to have fled. But that person, Alison Bree Carey, 28, of Hemet, arrived at the home while deputies were there.

She allegedly had methamphetamine on her and was arrested, Cardoza said. A drug-sniffing dog also found narcotics, paraphernalia and ammunition was found at the Meadowbrook home.

Between both arrests, 1.5 ounces of methamphetamine and one third of an ounce of heroin was confiscated, Cardoza said.

Carey remained in custody today.

Missing Person Body of Woman Found in Tooele County, UT

Police said a body found in Tooele County on Saturday is most likely that of Jane Ashby, who has been missing since July. A group of scouts found the body in a remote section of Tooele County . Family members said Ashby went missing July 31 after she left her home in Tooele City.

Police said the scouts found the body near a red SUV on a rugged mountainside in Tooele County. Family members said initially they were worried Ashby had left her house to commit suicide. Preliminary reports by police, however, said her car most likely went off the road down a steep embankment not viewable from the road.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Sgt. Lonnie Collings with the Tooele City Police Department said it appeared Ashby took a wrong turn and her car veered off the side of a switchback. He said the car and body were found off a road that connects Tooele City with Salt Lake County near Middle Canyon.

“There are some very tight switchbacks,” Collings said. “She went off the road and her car plunged 800 to 1000 feet down a steep mountainside.”

The wreckage was discovered Saturday afternoon by a troop of boy scouts who had been hiking in the area. Collings said the scouts came upon the SUV first and then found the body near the scene of the accident.

“They picked up an ID and got a hold of law enforcement,” Collings said.

Collings said police can’t confirm the body is that of Ashby’s until the medical examiner releases a report but the car and the ID are both hers.

“Family has been notified,” Collings said. “We have every reason to believe the deceased is Jane Ashby. These roads had been searched before, but there’s no way to see the wreckage from the road.”

Ashby was listed as a missing person in July after she left her house and was never seen again by family and friends. Her last credit card purchase was from a local Walmart for bleach and Drano, a combination that creates deadly chemicals, leading family to believe Ashby was planning suicide.

Ashby’s daughter, Michelle Graves, said her mother became extremely depressed after her husband, Michelle’s father, passed away last December from cancer.

“After my dad passed away in December she was suffering quite a bit from depression,” Graves said. “When she disappeared they were worried she had committed suicide. It looks like that’s why the investigation went in that direction.”

Graves said the area were her mother’s body was found was a place the family used to frequent when the children were little.

“We used to take picnics up there to see the view,” Graves said. “In a way it makes sense to me that she would go up there and have a little peace.”

Graves said that while she’s devastated at her mother’s passing, she is relieved to have closure.

“I’m just relieved to know what happened, glad to know she’s not in pain or alone,” Graves said. “I’m very sad she’s not with us. It’s that bitter sweet emotion of being relieved and sad at the same time.”

Graves said her mother was the type of person who was always helping other people.

“My mother was the most generous person I’ve ever known,” Graves said.

Police said they will release more information regarding the circumstances of Ashby’s death as the investigation continues.
