Missing Person Chad Rogers of Liberty, MO

A church parking lot buzzed with activity Wednesday afternoon as about 200 volunteers prepared to resume their search for a Liberty man missing since he left home for a run Monday evening.

Police had asked them to hold tight while a fresh K9 tried to pick up the scent of 30-year-old Chad Rogers. Another dog followed his scent Tuesday before tiring after four hours in the heat.

Liberty police have asked all volunteers to work with the Liberty Community Emergency Response Team, which has set up a command post at the Liberty Christian Fellowship Church at 1815 W. Liberty Drive.

The volunteers hope to finish searching the area at Birmingham and Ruth Ewing Road by using 10-person teams to walk grids through the area. All volunteers have been asked to sign in, provide their cell phone numbers and say how long they can help.

Local companies have donated snack food, pizza, sodas and water. Bug spray, gloves and other items line a hallway leading to the church sanctuary.

“We are trying to remain hopeful but this is becoming more difficult as time passes,” said the Rev. Tim Fritson, the church‘s youth pastor and a childhood friend of Rogers.

A police K9 picked up Rogers’ scent Tuesday afternoon and followed it. After working for about four hours in the heat, the dog was allowed to rest, said Liberty police Sgt. Bob Kumpost.

A fresh dog joined the search Wednesday. An officer has been assigned to follow upon various leads and reported sightings, some of which have come in from out of state.

“We are going to focus our search in different areas where we are getting viable leads from people,” Kumpost said Wednesday.

Kumpost said several surrounding law enforcement agencies have offered assistance in the search.

Police received and followed up on various leads throughout the night. They continued to follow leads Wednesday and focus their search efforts on several targeted areas, Kumpost said.

Rogers is a marathoner who frequently runs up to 15 miles along different routes. He was last seen wearing a bright orange visor with Newton Running printed on it, black running shorts and red running shoes. He was not wearing a shirt and reportedly did not carry a phone.

He is white with a shaven head, 5 feet 10 inches tall and 175 pounds. He has tattoos on both arms and forearms, across his upper chest and on both thighs and right calf.

Rogers and his wife, Sarah, have a 13-month-old son, and he is a stay-at-home dad, said his father, Greg Rogers.

“It is obviously been a roller coaster but we are people of faith and knowing that God knows where he is,” Rogers said. “But He (God) just needs to show us (where Chad is) at some point.

“We are just dealing with it with our faith and with a lot, a lot of community support.”

Rogers was hired as a full-time youth director at First United Methodist Church in Jefferson City in August 2011 and held that position until moving to Liberty last fall, said his father. His son’s family had recently moved back to Liberty and was living with him until they sold their house in Jefferson City. Sarah Rogers works for the Missouri Department of Social Services.

Kumpost said they still do not know what may have happened to Rogers.

“At this point, we are still going on he took off jogging from his house and it is unclear what happened after that,” he said.

Fraud Investigation Carter County Woman Indicted on Forgery Charges

Police in Carter County have arrested a woman and charged her with multiple counts of theft and forgery reported by the Northeast Kentucky Community Action Agency.

In May, Kentucky State Police initiated an investigation into multiple counts of theft and forgery reported by the Northeast Kentucky Community Action Agency. The agency, which is an organization that provides direct social services to Kentuckians with low and moderate incomes, including education grants, reported that an ex-employee had been stealing money from the agency, and forging checks which had been issued to their clients.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

Melissa Black, of Olive Hill, was implicated on fifty-five counts of Theft by Unlawful Taking (over $500.00), and fifty-four counts of Forgery in the Second Degree, which allegedly netted her more than $75,000.00 in illegitimate funds.

The case was presented to the Carter County Grand Jury on June 28, and an indictment was returned for twelve of the suspected counts. Black was arrested and is being held in the Carter County Detention Center on July 19.

Individual checks forged and money taken were at values ranging from $320 to $2,993.

Pedophile Tracking Former Fort Campbell Soldier

The case of a former Fort Campbell soldier accused of sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl went to the jury Tuesday, with the state concluding its case.

David Sabedra, 25, is accused of sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl on several occasions between January and August 2011.

On Monday, the now-11-year-old girl testified that Sabedra sexually abused her numerous times between January and August 2011 and would give her candy for sexual favors. The girl said Sabedra showed her pornographic videos on at least two occasions.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

A key state witness Tuesday was Brian Wilmoth, a forensic computer analyst with the Regional Organized Crime Information Center .

Wilmoth said he analyzed a laptop, two cell phones and a PlayStation that belonged to Sabedra. He looked through deleted files and found two pornographic videos on the laptop.

Wilmoth said the videos had been accessed in February 2011 on the laptop and in March 2011 on the PSP.

The jury viewed the videos Wilmoth recovered.

Another video, this one 50 minutes long, showed Sabedra crying and confessing to Clarksville Police Detective Tina Slaven that he fought with his desires and did have sexual contact with the child on several occasions. Sabedra admitted he used candy and sodas to exploit her. He also admitted taking photos and videos of the child and deleting them.

Sabedra had decided to testify, but he had a change of heart seconds before the jury was to re-enter the courtroom.
Closing arguments

The jury will deliberate on 10 counts, including especially aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, aggravated sexual battery, child rape, solicitation of a minor and sexual exploitation of a minor.

Kimberly Lund, assistant district attorney, gave a brief closing argument, explaining how each of the 10 counts applied to the testimony from the victim and the incriminating statements that Sabedra made to police.

“We know he intended to do all these things because he told Detective Slaven he did,” Lund said. “He told her he had to find a way to exploit the situation using candy. You have everything you need to find the defendant guilty.”

Assistant Public Defender Charles Bloodworth said the state did not prove that any of the acts testified about were for “arousal” – one of the elements of the law.

He asked the jury to take their time in rendering a verdict on each count.

The jury will begin deliberation at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Pedophile Tracking CA YMCA Worker Faces More Charges

A San Francisco Bay Area YMCA worker accused of sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl he was tasked with watching is facing additional charges involving two other girls under his care.

Morgan Hill police say prosecutors are expected to file the additional charges against 20-year-old Nick Lhermine (lehr-mi-Nee) on Tuesday afternoon.

Lhermine is currently charged with committing sexual acts with the 6-year-old on July 12 and possessing child pornography involving a 17-year-old. Capt. Shane Palsgrove says police discovered images of the 17-year-old victim on Lhermine’s phone.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

Since then, two other girls have come forward—a 7-year-old and 5-year-old. Palsgrove says Lhermine molested the 7-year-old and took sexually explicit photographs of the 5-year-old that were recovered from his cellphone.

He says the Public Defender’s Office is representing Lhermine. A call there was not immediately returned.

Missing Person Gregory Dailey of Port Richey, FL

The Pasco Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help locating an elderly man who has been missing since June 17.

Pasco Sheriff’s deputies say on June 17, 60-year-old Gregory Dailey was taken to the Port Richey Walmart with other residents of the Azalea House Assisted Living Facility.

When Dailey’s group reconvened inside the store, he didn’t show. He was then paged several times with no response.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Authorities say Dailey hasn’t been seen since and he also hasn’t contacted his 93-year-old mother, or the ALF house manager. A check of all local hospitals and mental health facilities came up empty-handed.

Deputies say he’s never been reported missing in the past and does not have a history of criminal activity, arrest, or narcotics abuse.

Dailey is 6’2″ and weighs 250 pounds.

Please call the Pasco Sheriff’s Office if you have any information about his whereabouts.

Missing Person Brookelyn Farthing’s Family Pushes Forward

Family and friends of a missing Madison County teen are struggling with few answers after a long day’s search on Tuesday.

Brookelyn Farthing disappeared on June 22nd. On Tuesday hundreds of people scoured thousands of acres looking for her, but the day ended with no sign of farthing.

For family and friends, it’s been a long month since Farthing disappeared, everyday filled with sadness and frustration.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

“We are all pushing through we aren’t going to give up,” said Farthing’s friend, Ashley Harrison. On Tuesday that hope pushed everyone to keep looking for Farthing in the Big Hill area of Madison County.

For more than ten hours Kentucky State Police combed through 16,000 acres and four bodies of water. They left no stone un-turned, but found no sign of Farthing.

“We are just hoping this is a positive step forward anyway,” said Farthing’s cousin, Tammy Turner.

Family said the more places checked, the closer they are. However, while the community is stepping up to help, they think other people are not.

“We desperately feel someone knows something and they are not coming forward,” said Turner.

Farthing was last seen at a home in Berea near the search area. The homeowner said when he returned, the house was on fire and Farthing was gone.

“Somebody has her or knows where she is at and they just aren’t saying anything,” said Harrison.

Farthing’s family is asking people who know the truth to speak up. “Please come forward, we are just kind of desperate right now for truth,” said Turner.

As loved ones pray for the truth to prevail, they hope for a happy ending, and if nothing else for closure. “Just closure at any point would be better than nothing at all as far as it is right now,” said Turner.

Farthing’s family has planned a benefit to help raise reward money. It will be on August 3rd at 10:30 a.m. at the Hog Trough in Richmond.

Fraud Investigation Ex-Assumblyman in CA Sentenced

A former California assemblyman and probation official who concocted an identity theft scheme to avoid paying his debts was sentenced Monday to a day in jail and a year of home confinement.

City News Service reports that Carl E. Washington also was ordered to pay $194,000 in restitution to three financial institutions he defrauded.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

He pleaded guilty to carrying out the four-year fraud in which he applied for credit cards and loans, racking up thousands of dollars in charges for airline tickets, hotels, restaurants and rental cars, and then falsely reported he’d been a victim of identity theft to avoid paying the bills.

The former legislator had a high level job as director for intergovernmental relations in the Los Angeles County Probation Department until his arrest. He lost his job with the agency.

The Democrat represented the 52nd District in South Los Angeles from 1996 to 2002.

In issuing the sentence, U.S. District Judge S. James Otero cited Washington’s many years of public service, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Douglas Miller.

Washington will be required to serve one day in custody and then wear an electronic monitoring device while under home confinement for a year. He will be on two additional years of supervised release.

Washington’s arrest was among those that drew attention to criminal behavior within the probation department.

Washington was one of at least 40 county probation employees arrested in the 12 months preceding his charges last year, 32 of whom were sworn law enforcement officers.

Officials said then the arrest was part of a crackdown on misconduct in the department, which is responsible for supervising about 80,000 criminals who have been released from jail or juvenile detention.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Washington’s arrest came on top of dozens of drunken driving, drug possession and theft arrests that seemed scattered throughout the 6,500-employee agency.
