Fraud Investigation EX Turnpike Authority Staffer Faces Charges

Federal prosecutors say a former claims manager for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority stole more than $120,000 from the agency through various schemes.

Gerardo Blasi of Clifton was arrested Monday by special FBI agents. He’s charged with mail fraud and defrauding a state agency that receives federal funds.

Prosecutors say the 54-year Blasi was responsible for negotiating and collecting payments from insurance companies whose insured drivers caused damage to the turnpike.

From April 2011 to June 2013, he allegedly stole more than $120,000 in several ways, including instructing insurance companies to issue checks payable to fraudulent repair companies. When the checks were mailed to Blasi at the authority, prosecutors say he would arrange to have them cashed and keep a portion of the money for himself.

Insurance Fraud Manchester, NJ Woman Arrested

A Manchester resident was arrested for insurance fraud after filing a false motor vehicle accident insurance claim with Geico Insurance last October, authorities said.

Porche Daniels, 25, was charged with second-degree insurance fraud. The charge carries a possible sentence of five to 10 years in state prison, Al Della Fave, a spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, said in a prepared statement.

Daniels reported that her 2011 Nissan Sentra was damaged after striking a guard rail on the Garden State Parkway in Lakewood. Investigators found that Daniels had filed the same exact claim on May 25, 2012 with Esurance Auto Insurance Co., Della Fave said.

The investigation found that Daniels had made five or more fictitious, fraudulent or misleading statements of material fact to Geico in the claim. She was seeking insurance benefits in excess of $1,000 for repairs she never made, Della Fave said.

Daniels was arrested on Friday afternoon at her workplace in Edison. She was released on $7,500 bail with no 10 percent option by state Superior Court Judge Rochelle Gizinski in Toms River.

Missing Person Body Found in Mount Hood, OR

Searchers have recovered the body of missing Mount Hood climber Kinley Adams, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Searchers set out early Sunday morning and reached the body nine hours later at around 11 a.m. They returned Sunday night at 6 p.m.

A medical examiner will perform an autopsy to determine Adams’ cause of death, but the results may not be available for several days, the sheriff’s office said.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

The recovery operation included 30 climbers and a few dozen support personnel, nearly all volunteers.

Adams’ body had to be pulled down the mountain on a stretcher, through snow, ice and rapidly changing weather.

His body was spotted at about 8,400 feet near the top of the Sandy Glacier by searchers in a National Guard Blackhawk helicopter at around 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

The body was located in the area of the route Adams planned to take up the mountain. Sgt. Sean Collinson with Clackamas County Search and Rescue said he believes melting snow helped reveal the body on Saturday.

Adams’ family members said they believe Adams is now in heaven. They thanked everyone involved with the search.

“This is a very disappointing end to a difficult week. We do genuinely wish it had ended differently,” said Adams’ brother-in-law Mark Goetz, who spoke for the family.

“We’re left with wrestling with hard things, and we will. And we know that Christ will go with us on this path,” he said. “We are not alone.”

The 59-year-old Salem dentist indicated he would take the Leuthold Couloir route to the summit, but he didn’t return from his climb last Saturday.

On Friday, search and rescue crews spotted two possible clues – an abandoned rope and a picket, or a climbing anchor. The National Guard said crew members aboard a Chinook helicopter spotted the items near Sandy Headwall, an area near the route Adams had planned to take.

Adams was an experienced climber who had been making frequent trips to Mount Hood in preparation for a trip to Nepal. He was thought to have a cellphone, but searchers were unable to pinpoint the signal. His mountain locator beacon was found at home, apparently with gear he was planning to take to Nepal.

Extreme fog and otherwise inclement conditions made the search almost impossible for the first several days after Adams missed his scheduled return time of 3 p.m. last Saturday.

The weather finally broke on Thursday, allowing helicopters and crews to conduct a much more thorough search.

Wrongful Death Brother of Dylan Redwine Speaks Out

Dylan Redwine’s older brother, Cory Redwine, said Thursday he is sad to learn of his brother’s fate, but glad to close this chapter in what has been a seven-month search for Dylan.

“It’s sad to finally hear that he’s no longer with us, but it’s better than not knowing, wondering every single second of every single day,” Cory said. “It’s nice to have closure.”

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Dylan enjoyed playing football, camping, hiking and even arguing with his brother, Cory said. He made people smile.

“He was such an absolute joy,” Cory said. “Every memory I have with him is a highlight of my life.”

Cory has publicly accused his father, Mark Redwine, of being involved in Dylan’s disappearance.

On Thursday, Cory said he still suspects his father’s involvement, but he wanted to focus on Dylan.

“This story, this case, is far from being over,” he said. “Today, it’s Dylan’s day.”

Mark Redwine did not return phone calls seeking comment.

Cory and his mother, Elaine Redwine, participated in the search Saturday and Sunday above Vallecito Reservoir. They were not a part of the team that found “huge articles of interest” on Sunday, Cory said.

Elaine Redwine is staying in Vallecito, he said.

“She’s really upset that her baby is gone,” Cory said.

Cory thanked the community for all of its attention and volunteer hours that went into searching for his brother. Finding Dylan is an accomplishment to be shared by all, he said.

“He was a huge part of my life and a huge part of this community,” he said.

Law-enforcement officials said Dylan was either kidnapped or someone harmed him. They do not believe he was a runaway.

They have not identified Mark Redwine as a suspect. Cory said the next chapter involves finding whomever was responsible.

“We found Dylan,” he said. “That doesn’t really mean all that much if we can’t find justice and bring peace for him.”

Cory said he feels “angry” about his little brother’s early demise.

“It should have never happened,” he said. “I love and miss him to a whole other level. I always thought love was a strong word, but now it touches me.

“I know he’s happy that we found him.”

Insurance Fraud NY Officer Charged After Caught Playing in Band

A Port Authority police officer has been charged with insurance fraud for claiming he was disabled while moonlighting in a rock band.

Authorities say Christopher Inserra defrauded the AFLAC insurance company and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

According to an indictment unsealed Monday, the alleged fraud occurred between June 2010 and March 2012.

http://liarcatchers.com/insurance_fraud.html

The indictment says Inserra reported a debilitating injury while on duty to “the lower bicep and elbow region of his right arm.”

But authorities say he regularly performed with the band.

They say investigators videotaped Inserra “using his right arm in a manner that was inconsistent with his claimed injury.”

He declined to comment as he left the courthouse.
