Pedophile Tracking Omaha Man Sentenced

An Omaha man was sent to prison today for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in a child prostitution case.

Alex Rahe, 30, was sentenced to two to 12 years in prison for felony first-degree sexual assault of the girl between April 21 and April 22, 2012, in Kearney. He received two days credit for time already served in jail.

Rahe could be eligible for parole in one year and could possibly be discharged in six years. He had earlier pleaded no contest to the charge and faces one to 50 years in prison.

 http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

Before issuing his sentence, Judge John Icenogle referred to a report from Rahe’s therapist who said Rahe failed to complete a group therapy program. The therapist also recommended Rahe receive a higher level of care and complete an in-patient treatment program.

“And there is only one place that I know of that can provide that kind of treatment,” Icenogle said.

The therapist’s reports aren’t public.

Although Rahe will be eligible for parole in one year, Icenogle said Rahe wouldn’t be considered until he completes the state Department of Corrections’ sex offender program.

“Although you have support within the community and a clean record, despite your driving, you chose to get yourself into the criminal justice system in the most worse way,” Icenogle added.

Before Icenogle issued his sentence, Rahe’s public defender, Charles Brewster of Kearney, argued for probation for his client, saying Rahe made a “stupid choice” and “engaged in horrible behavior.”

But Buffalo County Attorney Shawn Eatherton said Rahe had plenty of chances to walk away from the situation and didn’t.

“I don’t think we as a society, we can’t send the message that this kind of behavior can be tolerated,” he said. “Otherwise, it’s just a roll of the dice.”

Rahe had online conversations with an adult woman, later identified as Michelle Randall, 36, now of Lincoln. Rahe met Randall and the girl at a Kearney home where Rahe had sex with Randall and sexually assaulted the girl.

Randall is serving 92 to 120 years in prison for convictions in Buffalo, Franklin and Furnas counties for prostituting the girl and a 7-year-old girl to six men. Randall would be eligible for parole in 45 years.

Three of the men have been sentenced, while two other men’s cases are pending in Buffalo, Franklin and Lancaster counties. Those sentences are:

– Brian McCarthy of Lincoln is serving a six- to 10-year prison sentence for four counts of felony possession of child porn for having inappropriate pictures of the girl.

– Shad Chandler of Lincoln is serving 15 to 45 years in prison for felony first-degree sexual assault of the 14-year-old girl.

– Logan Roepke of McCook was placed on five years probation for felony first-degree sexual assault of the girl and ordered to serve six months in jail.

– Donald Grafe of Monroe is charged in Lancaster County District Court with one count of felony first-degree sexual assault. His case is pending.

– Zachary Schmidt of North Platte has been convicted of felony first-degree sexual assault in Buffalo County District Court and is awaiting sentencing. He also faces a charge of first-degree sexual assault of the girl in Franklin County District Court. That case is pending.

Fraud Investigation Woman Indicted on Fake Check Scheme

A Collin County grand jury has indicted on felony fraud charges a woman who insists she is the victim of a bogus boss she met on a professional networking website.

Tara Vaughns was arrested after she tried to cash a fake check that she said her employer mailed her. Allen police say the case may be connected to a multistate fraud ring based in Florida.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

Vaughns, who moved from South Florida to North Texas several months ago, said she met the employer through LinkedIn this winter and was hired as a personal assistant making $500 per week.

She told the NBC 5 Investigates Consumer Unit in April that she was “really excited” for the opportunity and the chance to begin a fresh start in Texas.

As part of her job, she needed to set up a home office. She said her employer sent her a $2,600 check to be used in part for computer equipment and Internet service.

When she went to cash the check in February at a drive-thru bank in Allen, a bank associate told her the check was a fake.

“He was like, ‘We have to hold this check for a fraud investigation,'” she said.

From the drive-thru lane, she immediately emailed her boss, she said.

“I attempted to cash the check and it’s not a good check,” Vaughns wrote, signing the email “concerned and embarrassed.”

Vaughns said her employer never replied.

To make matters worse, Allen police stopped her as she drove off.

“I was just in shock,” she said. “I didn’t know what to do.”

She was arrested and ended up in jail for five days.

NBC 5 spoke with Vaughns and her attorney, Scott Edgett, after her arrest.

“This is a person that is not a criminal. This is a person that’s been victimized, and she’s continuously being victimized by the criminal justice system,” said Edgett.

“I just want it all to all go away,” Vaughns said as she cried.

But Allen police have a different version of what happened.

“All I know is she passed a forged document, and the only victim in this case is the elderly gentleman in New York State who’s out over $50,000 because the bank account that she had on that check is his bank account,” Allen police spokesman Sgt. Jon Felty said.

Police told NBC 5 that Vaughns’ case may be connected to a criminal fraud ring involving stolen checks and credit cards. The operation, according to police, is based in Florida; coincidentally, where Vaughns last lived.

Felty told NBC 5 that police believe the employer she says she met on LinkedIn “does not exist.” The job search and the email correspondence between Vaughns and the employer were phony, too, he said.

“I submit that the emails are part of the cover for criminal activity,” he said. “They have no validity at all in this case.”

The case was presented to a Collin County grand jury in April. Just this month, it indicted her on third-degree felony forgery charges.

“This case is being scheduled for a jury trial at the first court setting,” Edgett said. “I anticipate this case will be presented to a jury in late 2013, and justice will finally be served for Tara Vaughns.”

Vaughns did not respond to NBC 5’s calls about the indictment.

As for LinkedIn, the company didn’t respond to specific questions about the case, but sent an emailed statement.

“LinkedIn’s policy is to not allow fake profiles,” LinkedIn spokeswoman Krista Canfield said. “If we’re made aware of a false profile, we take appropriate action by restricting, suspending or terminating/deleting that account.”

Canfield said the company’s policy is outlined in the user agreement and that members can report inappropriate posts or profiles.

Vaughns said she never contacted LinkedIn to report what had happened.

If convicted, she could face 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Insurance Fraud Man Arrested in Norcross, GA

A former Norcross insurance agent accused of keeping premiums paid to him for insurance coverage was arrested Thursday in Cobb County on multiple insurance fraud charges.

Juan Pablo Navas, 30, of Mableton, was taken to the Gwinnett County Jail, where he is being held on charges that include six counts of insurance fraud, three counts of financial transaction card fraud and four counts of forgery.

http://liarcatchers.com/insurance_fraud.html

According to state Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens, numerous clients of Velox Insurance Agency off Buford Highway in Norcross said they received cancellation notices from insurers who claimed lack of payment for automobile policies and workers’ compensation coverage. The clients had paid their premiums directly to Navas and received paperwork verifying coverage.

“Our investigation has turned up numerous victims of this scam and we expect for additional charges to be filed,” Hudgens said. “Velox Insurance has made good on all the missing payments, so their clients now have the coverage they paid for.”

Anyone who believes they have purchased insurance from Navas is asked to contact the Consumer Services Division at 404-656-2070.

Additionally, staff from Hudgens’ office will be at Velox Insurance from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. June June 3 and June 4 to meet with Velox clients with questions about this investigation.
