Private Detective: Grand Jury to Hear Evidence in Louisville Sex Scandal

A Louisville TV station reports that a Jefferson County grand jury is hearing evidence in the University of Louisville basketball program sex scandal involving self-proclaimed madam Katina Powell.

Powell is notorious after she claimed to host 22 stripping and sex parties from 2010 to 2014 at the basketball dormitory on the school’s campus.  Subpoenas have been issued in the case and now the grand jury will determine whether or not any crimes of sexual abuse were committed.

Powell documented the escapades in her book “Breaking Cardinal Rules.” She claimed that basketball staffer Andre McGee paid her $10,000 for supplying dancers.

Louisville Coach Rick Pitino has denied any knowledge of the parties.

According to WDRB, Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Chris Foster, who is in charge of a unit that prosecutes crimes against children, is handling the case.

Missing Person W.VA State Police Seek John Doe Warrant in Missing Person Case

West Virginia State Police investigators are expected to seek a warrant for a man last seen with Kara Jeffrey, 21, of Barboursville, who has been missing since May 1 and is believed to be in danger.

Cpl. Isaac Harmon said the WVSP will seek a “John Doe warrant” for the arrest of a man going by the alias Jeff Cooper, who they believe Jeffrey is with.

“I’m going to research the legalities behind that,” he said. “We don’t do it very much, but if all we have to go off of is a positive photo and alias (we can do it).”

Jeffrey had been living in Fairmont, West Virginia, but went missing on May 1 after she traveled to Huntington to see Cooper near W.Va 75. She is described an Asian female, 5 feet 4 inches tall and 140 pounds, with an athletic build.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

The search for Jeffrey has since expanded into the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, around the Hedgesville area in Berkeley County, and in nearby Hagerstown, Maryland. The search remains ongoing in Huntington.

Harmon said they believe Jeffrey is in danger due to her association with known drug traffickers, including the man known as Cooper. Harmon said Jeffrey has also been diagnosed with a mental illness and is believed to be off her medication.

In February, Jeffrey was charged with conspiracy to possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute after troopers attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle early Jan. 12 in Fairmont.

The driver of the vehicle, identified later as Jeffrey’s boyfriend, evaded police before ditching the vehicle and fleeing on foot.

After searching the vehicle and Jeffrey’s residence, police found cocaine packaged for sale, a loaded assault rifle and several types of drug paraphernalia indicating the use, processing and sale of narcotics.

Harmson said he is not sure if Jeffrey is with the man on her own free-will.

Anyone with information regarding Jeffrey or her whereabouts is asked to call West Virginia State Police Cpl. Issac Harmon at 304-290-4002 or Sgt. Sally Hatten at 304-633-6261.

Private Detective: Skull Found in Utah Home’s Cellar May Be From Woman Who Went Missing in 1988

Crime scene investigators are trying to determine the identity of what appear to be human remains found in the cellar of a Spanish Fork home Monday morning.

The home near 80 North 800 East is the same place where a woman lived who went missing nearly three decades ago.

Two friends noticed some sinking dirt in the cellar and decided to dig down to see if there was anything in the dirt. They discovered what appeared to be a human skull wrapped in a blanket, according to Spanish Fork Police.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

“When the individual was interviewed by police he advised that last year he was informed by an adjacent property owner that a previous tenant who resided at the property was a missing person and she had never been located. The tenant advised that he was curious into what was causing the sinking dirt and he wondered if someone or something was buried in the cellar,” Spanish Fork Police Lt. Matt Johnson said in a news release.

“Our department conducted an extensive investigation in regards to that search,” Johnson said Monday.

He said the skull was wrapped in a blanket.

Police say Peggy Sue Case was reported missing from the home in 1988. Investigators never found evidence of her disappearance, but did name Michael Kurfin as a person of interest in the case.

Case has been listed as a missing person since 1988, and police say Kurfin’s whereabouts are currently unknown.

The skull found Monday will be taken to the medical examiner’s office for identification.

Fraud Investigation Police in McCreary Warn on Social Work Scam

Police want to people in McCreary County to be aware of random people claiming to be social workers. They believe at least two people have been pretending to be social workers to try to get personal and financial information from their victims

Police say the fake social workers are calling people in the area and showing up at their homes with a fake badge. This has happened at least three times since mid-April.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

Police say the fake social workers are trying to get personal information. Luckily, they haven’t been successful so far. The State Department of Community Based services, which employs social workers, says real social workers will always show state ID when they visit a home.

Identity Theft Two in WI Face ID Theft And Meth Possession Charges

Tiffany M. Knueppel, 33, Waupaca, and Harley D. Beckerson, 26, Menasha, are charged with possession of methamphetamine, identity theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Knueppel is also charged with misdemeanor bail jumping and Beckerson is charged with felony bail jumping.

On May 16, New London Police Officer Ryan Denu pulled over a tan Buick with Michigan license plates that did not belong to the vehicle.

According to the criminal complaint, the man and woman who were in the vehicle said they did not have ID.

Denu suspected they were not who they said they were and identified them from booking photos as Knueppel and Beckerson.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

A search of the vehicle uncovered two digital scales, several syringes, a glass jar with marijuana, a pipe with burnt marijuana residue and a gem bag with a clear brown substance that tested positive for meth, the complaint says.

Outagamie County had issued a bench warrant for Beckerson’s arrest because he failed to make a court appearance in April on charges of credit card fraud and felony bail jumping.

Beckerson also faced charges of identity theft and felony bail jumping in Calumet County where he had been released from custody in February on a $5,000 signature bond.

Knueppel was on extended supervision at the time of her May 16 arrest in Waupaca County.

She was convicted of possession of methamphetamine, possession of narcotics, possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana in January 2015 and sentenced to one year and four months in prison with four years of extended supervision.

Identity Theft Married PA Business Owners Face Jail Time

A husband and wife who operated an Upper Dublin heating and air conditioning business are headed to jail together after they fraudulently used the identities of people from Montgomery, Chester and Bucks counties to open credit accounts with a financial institution.

Philadelphia residents Eric Lamont Martin, 34, and Portia D. Martin, 31, pleaded guilty in Montgomery County Court to multiple counts of identity theft, theft by deception and conspiracy to commit thefts in connection with incidents that occurred in 2015.

Eric Martin, who is listed in court documents as president of Centra-Spike Inc., a heating, ventilation and air conditioning company located in the Fort Washington section of Upper Dublin, was sentenced to 11 ½ to 23 months in the county jail, to be followed by eight years of probation and 500 hours of community service, in connection with the thefts.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

Portia Martin, who according to court papers is listed as vice-president of Centra-Spike, was sentenced to six to 23 months in the county jail, to be followed by eight years’ probation and 300 hours of community service.

The Martins, who are eligible for the jail’s work release program during their incarceration, also must share in the payment of $116,000 that remains in restitution to be paid to Synchrony Financial of Ohio. Detectives identified Synchrony Bank as a financial services company that allows individuals to finance home improvement projects completed by companies.

The punishments were imposed by Judge Thomas C. Branca.

“The bottom line is he admitted to obtaining individuals’ personal information for the purposes of obtaining credit from a financial institution,” defense lawyer Andrew Laird said on Eric Martin’s behalf, explaining the nature of the guilty plea.

Laird argued for a sentence of house arrest or at least a sentence that included a work release provision.

“Obviously, my client is remorseful and accepts full responsibility for what took place. We asked that he be able to continue to either work his HVAC business or other gainful employment for the purposes of paying back the restitution to Synchrony Bank,” Laird said.

The theft totaled about $124,000, according to authorities.

The eight identity theft victims were primarily elderly and they resided in Hatboro, East Norriton, Upper Dublin and Abington in Montgomery County; in Chester Springs, Chester County; and in Warminster, Bucks County.

“She acknowledged taking the personal information off of medical records from a medical practice where she was working,” defense lawyer Martin P. Mullaney explained on behalf of Portia Martin. “She’s been remorseful since day one. In a moment of weakness she went ahead and did this. She recognizes that she hurt people. She is genuinely remorseful.”

Mullaney argued Portia Martin got involved in the scheme through her husband and that “he led her into that episode of criminality.”

Detectives alleged the Martins used the eight victims’ personal information to fraudulently obtain credit from the bank. The investigation revealed the eight credit accounts opened by Centra-Spike were fraudulent and Centra-Spike used the identities and personal information of unknowing victims to open credit accounts and charge the accounts for services not performed, according to the arrest affidavit.

The funds borrowed were initially deposited into Centra-Spike’s account. However, the investigation revealed that some of the funds later were transferred from the business account to personal accounts held by the Martins, according to court papers.

The investigation began in March 2015, when an Upper Dublin man contacted township police to report he was the victim of identity theft. The victim told detectives he received correspondence from Synchrony Bank regarding a credit account that was opened in his name without his authorization, according to the criminal complaint filed by Upper Dublin Detective Michael W. Gommer.

Working with bank officials, detectives eventually developed the Martins as suspects in the fraud scheme. Detectives did not theorize on the couple’s motive in the criminal complaint.

However, Laird explained, “My client’s business expanded rapidly and it was his intent to obtain some money from the bank with the intent of repaying that money back in a very short period of time. Unfortunately, his plan did not go as it was laid out and there were some individuals that were affected throughout the process.”

Private Detective: Casey Co. Mother Offering Reward For Late Son’s Vehicle

Almost three years after losing her son in an accident, a Casey County mother is offering a reward to get back part of her son’s legacy that was stolen.

Austin Mincey was just 14-years-old when he lost his life in a motocross accident.

A few days ago, Austin’s mother, Julie, said she noticed someone stole something she said is near and dear to her heart, right from her garage. Now, she is determined to get it back.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

Julie told LEX 18 that two Sundays ago, she noticed that someone had broken into her garage and stole a Polaris Rzr vehicle. It’s more than another vehicle. For Julie, it has sentimental value. She said that she bought it for Austin when he broke his femur, in hopes that she could interest him in something other than motocross.

Julie told LEX 18 that the stolen Polaris should be easy to spot because it has decals with Austin’s number, 173, on it.

“It’s very sentimental. I’m offering a reward. I won’t ask any questions. If somebody would just bring it back, I would give them a thousand dollars. I just want it back,” she said.

Anybody with any information should contact the Casey County Sheriff’s Office.
