Drug Dog Sweep Man Found with $200k in Alleged Drug Money Pleads Guilty

The 21-year-old man accused of having $200,000 in alleged drug trafficking money pleaded guilty on Friday in federal court.

Josue Amaya-Salazar pleaded by bill of information in Dayton’s U.S. District Court to one count of attempted international money laundering. As part of the plea — which had been delayed one day — one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute heroin was dismissed.

Amaya-Salazar is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 30 by U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Rose. If Rose accepts the plea, the parties agreed to a term of three years in prison.

In court, Amaya-Salazar admitted that on March 16, 2017, he attempted to transport about $200,000 in drug money — prosecutors initially said the total was closer to $300,000 — from the United States to Mexico. The money was to go to another person and then be transferred to drug traffickers in Mexico.

Rose told Amaya-Salazar that the maximum sentence would be 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $500,000 or twice the amount of money. He also could be deported and restricted from re-entering the United States.

Amaya-Salazar’s federal public defender estimated his client’s non-binding, guideline sentencing estimate to be 37 to 46 months in prison.

Law enforcement conducted surveillance March 16 in the area of 1502 Xenia Ave. in Dayton, according to a complaint and affidavit filed in Dayton’s U.S. District Court.

The complaint, written by Springfield police officer and Drug Enforcement Administration task force officer Jason Via, said police had earlier stopped a different car that had thousands of dollars in bulk cash.

The complaint said law enforcement observed Amaya-Salazar carry a weighted bag, which he placed in his vehicle. Later, he was stopped for a traffic violation and a drug K-9 alerted to the odor of narcotics.

In searching the car, officers found the cash and a small amount of heroin.

“Mr. Amaya-Salazar admitted that he knew that the money in the car represented the proceeds of drug sales,” Via wrote. “He indicated that he intended to deliver the money to an unknown Hispanic male.”

Fraud Investigation State Prisoner Sentenced to Federal Prison for Tax Fraud

A state prisoner in eastern Kentucky has been sentenced to 129 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to conspiring to submit false tax returns using the names of other prisoners.

William Helton, 37, of Mt. Sterling was sentenced for conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, and aggravated identity theft.

The Department of Justice reported that in Helton’s plea agreement, he admitted that as a state prisoner serving time for convictions related to burglary, theft, and drugs, he and a co-conspirator outside of the prison, Jason Tyre, met and corresponded through a prison pen-pal program and developed a conspiracy in which they and other co-conspirators submitted multiple false tax returns, using the other people’s personal information to fraudulently obtain money for tax refunds.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

He also admitted that the conspiracy amounted to $390,000 of false tax refund claims over four years. He acknowledged that he obtained other prisoners’ personal information such as security numbers and gave that information to Tyre. The Department of Justice said that Tyre then filled out tax forms using the names and personal information of other prisoners. They say that Tyre then made false claims on the tax forms regarding items such as filing status, income, employment, and number of dependents, to maximize the refund amount. Helton said that he got Tyre to open bank accounts in Tyre’s name to hold the money from the fraudulent tax refunds and to wire the money to other co-conspirators once he received the tax refunds.

U.S . District Judge Danny Reevers also ordered Helton pay $96,522 in restitution plus interest.

Tyre is scheduled for sentencing on May 26.

Pedophile Tracking 15 Arrested in Collin County, TX Child Porn Sting

At least two Plano men were arrested Monday alongside 13 other suspects in a multi-agency child pornography sting. Richard Butterly, owner of Plano’s Poor Richard’s Café, and Kirk Martinez, a 911 dispatcher for the Plano Police Department, are facing charges of possession of child pornography.

Collin County Sheriff Jim Skinner announced the conclusion of Operation Medusa, which resulted in 15 individual arrests for offenses ranging from promotion of child pornography to online solicitation of a minor.

In addition to the arrests, investigators seized hard drives and other electronic devices to be used for forensic examination. Once they have been analyzed, investigators may identify other offenders, which could lead to additional arrests.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

The Collin County District Attorney’s office initially has the idea to organize an operation “to identify and arrest child exploitation predators,” said Plano PD spokesman David Tilley, “so the Collin County DA’s office wanted to go to the best person available to make that happen.” The best comes is Plano PD Detective Jeff Rich, who Tilley described as “the expert in this whole area on that.”

With Rich as the spearhead, detectives from surrounding departments were brought into the fold to assist in identifying suspects and eventually executing search warrants and more.

In a press release from DA’s office, Skinner thanked local participating agencies: Allen PD, Collin County District Attorney’s Office, Dallas PD, FBI, Frisco PD, Garland PD, Grand Prairie PD, McKinney PD, Mesquite PD, Murphy PD, Plano PD, Sherman PD, Texas Department of Public Safety, Wylie PD and the United States Attorney’s Office, eastern district.

“Operation Medusa is an excellent example of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies working together to bring to justice those predators who seek to harm our children. To be clear, if you traffic or trade in child pornography, or you come to Collin County with the intent to have sex with a child, know that we are hunting for you. We will protect our children,” the release stated.

This investigation is ongoing, so residents can expect more arrests to come moving forward, Tilley said. “We’ve identified 15 and arrested them, but we have more that we are looking into and there is a very good likelihood that additional arrests will be made in the future,” he said.
