A Highland woman faces up to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to identify theft Friday in U.S. District Court in East St. Louis.
During her plea, Christina Whittaker, 51, of Highland admitted that she had fraudulently obtained two credit cards by utilizing the personal identifying information of another person without their knowledge or permission. Whittaker then used the credit cards to purchase approximately $9,000 worth of goods and services between Oct. 12, 2011, and March 20, 2012.

The investigation was conducted by postal inspectors with United States Postal Inspection Service and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ranley R. Killian.
Whittaker will be sentenced on Dec. 17. Identity theft carries a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
