ESSEX COUNTY — A former public adjuster from Englewood was sentenced to 18 months probation today for defrauding her clients and insurance companies out of more than $42,000.
According to a statement from Attorney General Jeffrey S. Chiesa, an Essex County judge also ordered 59-year-old Sheena Clarke to surrender her public adjuster’s license, pay $42,519 in restitution and perform 300 hours of community service.

She was indicted in Feburary, and pleaded guilty to insurance fraud on Aug. 13.
Between 2005 and 2010, Clarke submitted fraudulent claims to four insurance companies claiming that properties of her clients in Newark, Paterson, Irvington and East Orange had been damaged and subsequently repaired.
Clarke then collected reimbursements from the companies when in fact, the repairs had never been completed, according to Chiesa.
Insurance fraud is a third-degree crime, which generally do not carry jail sentences for those without a prior criminal record.
