VANCOUVER, Wash. – Clark County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man who they said set fire to a hotel room, climbed onto the roof and refused to come down Saturday.

Angel M. Torres-Reyna, 41, faces first degree arson charges.

Firefighters responded to a report of a fire at the Quality Inn Hotel at around 3:30 p.m. Saturday. When they arrived, they spotted Reyna on the roof of the building.

Firefighters initially thought he needed rescuing, but when they placed a ladder against the building, Reyna kicked it down, A Clark County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said.

Reyna kicked the ladder down a second time when firefighters tried again.

When Clark County sheriff’s deputies arrived to negotiate with Reyna, he verbally challenged them to come up to the roof and get him, deputies said.

Reyna came off the roof at around 8 p.m.

It’s unclear how much damage the fire caused.
