SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — A Syracuse firefighter has been arrested on fraud charges in a scam where $38,000 worth of Home Depot goods were stolen and later returned in exchange for gift cards.
Lotan Mitchell has been charged with grand larceny and falsifying business records, according to The Post-Standard of Syracuse (http://bit.ly/Rpo5Kq ). Three others were also arrested and charged in the scam.

DeWitt police say that Mitchell started stealing from the store, and had different people return the goods to various Home Depots around Central New York to avoid anti-fraud systems at the stores.
Syracuse Fire Chief Mark McLees told the newspaper he would discuss the case with lawyers and union officials this weekend but Mitchell had not been suspended.
