Missing Person Sharon Sons’ Family Seeking Answers for 19 yrs

Nineteen years ago, a Lexington woman disappeared. A missing persons report for Sharon Sons was filed, police investigated, but the case went cold.

Now her family is speaking to LEX 18, and despite the passage of nearly 20 years, they still hope someone who knows something will call police.

Sharon’s sister tells us Sharon would never just up and leave. She was 28 at the time, had an 11 year old son, and was close with her family. Sharon’s mother thinks her daughter was murdered, and she says detectives think so too. Now they just need help solving the case.

Sharon was last seen October 20,1993.

“Someone has just ripped her away from us, and it’s just not fair,” says her older sister, Debbie Collins.

Sharon’s boyfriend at the time, Willie King, told her family Sharon decided to go for a walk to a nearby laundromat. She was never heard from again.

“Well, that’s what he told us,” says Sarah Sons, Sharon’s mom. She says she always wondered if King was involved in her daughter’s disappearance.

“When Willie King called me and told me he had filed a missing persons report, I knew right then… no this is not like her,” Collins says. She tells LEX 18 when it happened, police questioned, then cleared King.

Fall turned to winter, and detectives followed more leads. Nothing panned out. Nineteen Octobers have passed. Still no answers.

“We have missed 20 years of her life. Holidays, birthdays, special occasions, weddings, babies being born. They just took it right away from us,” says Collins.

Sharon’s mom holds onto her daughter’s “missing” poster. It’s the same poster she hung on trees nearly two decades ago. She’s hoping maybe this time someone will see it and call police.

“We want closure. Somebody thinks they’re getting away with something here. But the day will come when there’s a higher power they’re going to have to answer to. And they’re not going to get by with lying to them,” she says.

Sharon Sons would be 47 today. If you have any information about her, call Lexington police.
