An Owsley County family is left to deal with a bizarre double tragedy after two strange deaths in six months.
James Bennett, 58, was found dead Friday afternoon inside of his home on Ky 3346 in Booneville. Investigators said the man was burned all over.
“He always got along with everybody. I mean, he’s a good fella,” said Ellis Bennett, the victim’s brother. “It hurts me. It hurts me in a way, you know.”

A family member caught Ellis Bennett off-guard, telling him of his brother’s passing: “I said what happened? She said they found him in the house, dead.”
While the 58-year-old used a wheelchair to get around, the Owsley County Coroner told LEX 18 that Bennett was found burned outside of that chair. His home had also suffered no real fire damage.
“His daughter-in-law told me there were two little fires, two little places burnt. One in the bathroom, one burned in the living room,” Ellis Bennett said.
James Bennett’s death was even more bizarre because back in May, his 37-year-old nephew, Randy “Bean” Bennett was discovered burned beyond recognition in a truck on Ky 1411. The cause of death was ruled “undetermined,” resulting from an apparent lack of evidence.
“Seems like it’s happened pretty close together in a way, you know,” said Bennett.
An autopsy was conducted Saturday on James Bennett. Results are expected next week.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
