Pedophile Tracking Newton, NC Man Sentenced

CHARLOTTE N.C. – A Newton man was sentenced to 420 months in prison and a lifetime of supervised release on charges related to sexual offenses and child pornography, according to U.S. Attorney Anne M. Tompkins of the Western District of North Carolina.

Bruce Leroy Donald, Jr., 41, was sentenced on one count of production of child pornography, one count of a felony offense involving a minor committed by a registered sex offender and one count of possession of child pornography.

The charges stem from a May 2011 indictment. Based on court documents, Donald repeatedly sexually abused a minor male between 2007 and 2008 and photographed some of the abuse. The Newton Police Department, working with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and the State Bureau of Investigation, found hundreds of pictures of child pornography in Donald’s possession and identified a local boy in the pictures. The Newton Police department first came upon the evidence against Donald while investigating him for unrelated larcenies.

Donald was a registered sex offender at the time he committed the sex crimes.

His case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood. The initiative is led by the U.S. Attorneys’ offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section and brings together federal, state and local resources to “better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue the victims.”

Donald pleaded guilty to child pornography production and possession charges in October 2011. He has been in local federal custody since May 2011 and will be transferred to the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons as soon as officials designate a federal facility. His sentence will be served without the possibility of parole, as are all federal sentences.
