Identity Theft Woman Charged in Spotsylvania, VA

A 75-year-old Spotsylvania County woman was surprised when she received a bill for $830 from a women’s fashion catalog this weekend.

She reported the bill from Midnight Velvet to the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office because she never made any purchases from the company and didn’t know why she was receiving the bill, authorities say.

The items purchased included bedding, jewelry and clothing, said Capt. Mike Harvey with the Spotsylvania sheriff’s office.

Spotsylvania Deputy John Durbin was able to work with loss prevention staff from Midnight Velvet and identified the address where the items were sent, Harvey said.

On Monday, Durbin made contact with a woman who lived at the address where the items were shipped and recovered most of the property listed on the bill that was sent to the victim, Harvey said.

The victim’s neighbor, Crystal Leigh Nestor, 39, of Spotsylvania is charged with identity theft, obtaining goods by false pretenses, distributing stolen property and grand larceny.
