A registered child sex offender who lived in Akron and Youngstown was sentenced Thursday to 16 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to 100 counts of making sex videos of himself with children and possessing child pornography.
William McCants, 45, was sentenced Thursday by Mahoning County Common Pleas Judge James Evans on 28 second-degree felony counts of illegally using a minor in nudity oriented matter, 15 counts of fourth-degree felony pandering obscenity involving a minor and 57 counts of second-degree felony pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor.

Evans adopted the sentencing recommendation made by Assistant Mahoning County Prosecutor Natasha Frenchko. McCants will remain a Tier II sex offender, which means he has to register with his county’s sheriff’s department every 180 days for the next 25 years.
The images and videos were discovered on his computer shortly after McCants finished a prison term in Summit County for failing to register as a sex offender and tampering with evidence.
McCants earned his sex offender status in Hamilton County, when he was convicted in 2004 of two counts of child endangering and sentenced to two years in prison.
