Police said a man was shot while burglarizing a home in Garrard County Monday afternoon.
David Baker came home Monday afternoon to find an SUV parked in his driveway, just off Jennings Road.
Trooper Frank Thornberry, with Kentucky State Police said Baker tried to ward off the suspect.
“Yelled into the residence, if you’re in my home, you need to show yourself right now,” explained Trooper Frank Thornberry.

Kentucky State Police said Baker went to his shed and grabbed the shotgun.
“It wasn’t a struggle, but a brief verbal altercation ensued and the homeowner shot the suspect in the arm area,” stated Thornberry.
It was then, 26 year-old Jarred Pitman of Waco – ran away. He was found on nearby Day Road and taken into custody. At this time Pitman is only being charged with one count of burglary, but police said four happened Monday afternoon all in the same neighborhood. In fact, in the past two weeks, at least eight homes have been broken into. That’s something KSP will be questioning Pitman about and it’s something that worries neighbor, Jared Lake.
“Our neighbor has been hit before and had a couple of his bridles and saddles stolen from his horses,” stated Jared Lake, a neighbor.
Lake said it’s trials like those though, that Lake said defines rural communities.
“Being around here, us country folks, everybody knows everybody and works together as neighbors to watch out over each other and protect them as family,” stated Lake.
Police said Pitman has a detailed rap sheet. He faces charges including burglary of a residence and a convicted felon in possession of a handgun.
Pitman is at UK-Hospital, but we’re told his injuries are not life threatening.
