A fire broke out at an abandoned home on West Second Street Sunday evening. Investigators haven’t released a cause yet, but neighbors say it appears to be suspicious.
“I heard the fire sirens initially and looked outside and saw smoke and so I came outside,” says David Stephenson who lives next door to the home. “This house has been vacant for almost the entire time I’ve lived here. I’ve lived here for 6 years and its been vacant the entire time.”

The fire is a cause for concern for folks who live in the area. What could possibly start a fire in an empty home? Arson investigators were on scene looking into the fire but at this point they won’t say if it was intentionally set or not. Firefighters also say the home was recently condemned.
“It’s a shame because this area is up and coming lately. It was downtrodden for the first 3 years I’ve lived here but it’s coming back now,” says Stephenson.
No nearby homes were damaged and no one was hurt.
