The body of the reported missing man is believed to have been found this weekend and the suspects are in police custody, but investigators are still continuing the investigation.
Last Thursday morning at around 8:36, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office responded to a “welfare check” at the 700 Block of Silver Oak Drive. The reporting persons at the scene informed Deputies that 62-year-old William McCune, employed by the state, had not reported for work and had missed a scheduled work related flight early that morning. Although no one was located at the apartment residence, the initial Deputy on scene requested the assistance of Detectives based on the obvious appearance of a severe struggle inside the apartment.

Saturday morning at around 8, Sheriff’s Search and Rescue teams located a wrapped body in the Carson River waters just South of Carson River Road. The identification of the body is pending an autopsy but is believed to be that of McCune.
Based upon information gathered by Detectives, an operation was initiated. Carson City Special Enforcement officers were dispatched to Las Vegas where three persons of interest had been reported. The team arrived in Vegas in the early morning hours, as Detectives in Carson City executed search warrants and narrowed their search of other persons of interest remaining in the local area. During the early morning hours of April 6th, 23-year-old Michael Paul Evans, was located and arrested in Carson City. He was booked into the jail on the charges of Murder , Battery with a Deadly Weapon Causing Substantial Bodily Harm, Burglary, and Murder of an Older Person.
The Carson City Special Enforcement Team coordinated their activities with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Three other suspects were taken into custody on the Las Vegas Strip. 20-year-old Makyla L. Blackmore was charged with Burglary; 22-year-old Raul Garcia was charged with Burglary and 20-year-old Anthony Elliot was charged with Murder. All three were arrested on warrants issued out of Carson City courts in connection with the disappearance of McCune. All three persons are expected to be returned to Carson City within the week.
McCune’s missing vehicle remains unaccounted for. The license plates to the vehicle were recovered by investigators this past Saturday. Recovery of the vehicle license plates was associated with the arrest of suspect Evans, arrested in Carson City.
An autopsy was initiated by the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office on Saturday. Details of the autopsy are pending and a positive identification of the body recovered from the Carson River has not yet been established. The Sheriff’s Office is hopeful this identification will be forthcoming in the upcoming week. Although not previously known, the Carson City Coroner’s Office believes that McCune does have next of kin (immediate family) to contact.
Although crime scene processing is expected to continue for the next several days, all Search and Rescue operations have been called off.
This matter remains an open investigation and critical details will remain controlled. As of this date, new evidence and interviews are continuing to be collected. There appears to be no information associating this event with McCune’s employment.
Information pertaining the witnesses and businesses that have been critically instrumental to the capture of the four suspects is being withheld at this time.
At this time, interviews and evidence is beginning to suggest that the possible motive of this event was theft driven by illegal drug use.
Investigators are continuing to collect information on the association of the suspects to McCune. It is known that at least one of the suspects has had direct contact with McCune in the past. There has been no suggestion to this date that entry into the McCune residence was forced.
