Wrongful Death Body of 14 Yr Old Kansas City Boy Found

Kansas City police Thursday confirmed that the body found in a dirt pile Wednesday belonged to a missing Hickman Mills School District eighth-grader.

Police are investigating the death of Montee Ross, 14, as a homicide.

Montee’s mother reported him missing Monday. He last was seen walking to a store with two siblings Sunday morning. He encountered a friend and told his younger brother that he was going to the friend’s home, thought to be in the 11500 block of Food Lane.

Later, Montee’s mother began hearing rumors that her son had been shot to death accidentally and buried near the town homes in the 11500 block of Food Lane. She called police Wednesday to relay what she had learned. Officers searching the area saw a hand exposed from one of several dirt piles in a parking lot behind the town homes.

Montee lived with his mother and four siblings in a house on the next block.

Although police have heard the same rumors as Montee’s relatives, as of late Thursday afternoon detectives had not been able to confirm what led to or caused Montee’s death. Investigators had not made any arrests.
