Wrongful Death Man Charged in Fatal Crash Pleads Not Guilty

The man accused in a fatal wrong-way crash in Woodford County earlier this month that killed a five year-old Lexington boy and injured seven others pleaded not guilty in the case Monday.

Officials have filed charges against Alfonso Diaz-Diaz, 26, of Louisville. He is charged with second-degree manslaughter, five counts of first-degree assault, wanton endangerment and DUI.

Police say they got a call about a black car heading the wrong way around 10 p.m. on April 21. Just a few minutes later, the report of a head-on collision at US 60 and Midway Road came in.

Blake Cohorn, 5, of Lexington, was declared dead at the scene.

Officials say two people in the black car were taken to UK Hospital.

Six people were in the other vehicle – three adults and three children. The driver was airlifted to UK Hospital with injuries police described as life-threatening. EMS took a passenger in the front seat to UK Hospital. EMS took an adult and two children in the back seat to a Frankfort hospital.

Officials say Cohorn was sitting in a booster seat between the two adults in the front seat. He was a student at Harrison Elementary School in Lexington.
