A former minister has been charged with sex offenses with a child in Pasquotank County.
NBC affiliate WITN reports Michael Gothard, 49, has been charged with five counts of indecent liberties with a child and six counts of first degree sexual offense.
According to investigators with the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office, Gothard committed the crimes during a six-year period between 1999 and 2005. Deputies were told about the crimes in February.

WITN reports Gothard lists himself as a columnist at the Daily Advance, Beaufort-Hyde News and Chowan Herald newspapers. He was also a minister at New Community Church in Elizabeth City.
