A missing person case is now a homicide investigation. Bakersfield police say they found Kelly Gill’s body hidden inside the home where he lived, a day after he was reported missing. Officers arrested his 18-year-old roommate, Theron Ausbie, for homicide and robbery.
Gill’s sister, Dickey Sue Martinez, says she thinks her younger brother died over money.
“I’m thinking it’s Theron Ausbie. He had a plot to kill my brother,” said Martinez.

Martinez’s brother, Kelly Gill, was found dead inside his home on Castro Lane.
Bakersfield police say they got the tip Monday night after Gill’s sister reported him missing Sunday.
Martinez let a 17 News camera inside the home and into the room where she says Ausbie, was staying. She says police found Gill’s body inside Ausbie’s closet.
“He knew he had a lot of money on him and he kept telling ’em, I’m going to kill your brother or not kill him, but he said do away with him. My brother kept telling me he heard this and I said I think you are just misunderstanding him. And, he’s gone,” said Martinez.
Martinez says her brother always carried at least $1,000 on him. He collected Social Security and Disability from a severe case of Wilson’s Disease. And, Bakersfield police confirmed Gill was robbed of his cash.
Martinez says Monday, Ausbie bought a car for $700, but it stopped running after he brought it home.
“So he was probably going to put him in the car and dump him off somewhere,” said Martinez.
Court records show since Ausbie became an adult, he has pleaded guilty to possession of stolen property and served three days in jail for second degree burglary.
And, neighbors say police frequented the house.
“Always,” said Johnny Craig, who lives across the street. “I mean look at it. It looks like a bomb went off there. And, there’s constant criminal activity over there every day, every night.”
Theron Ausbie is set to be arraigned for suspicion of homicide and robbery Wednesday.
