Drug Dog Sweep $7000 Meth Bust in Nixa, MO

A routine traffic stop turned into four arrests and a major drug bust May 23 in Nixa when the police K-9 alerted officers to the scent of what turned out to be 140 grams of a powdered substance containing methamphetamine.

Information from the city of Nixa says the substance, which was found in dozens of small, sealed bags, tested positive for meth and is similar to Ecstasy. The drugs’ street value is about $7,000.

NPD arrested three men and one woman in the bust, ages 17 to 23, the information says. The suspects were taken into custody and released, pending charges as the state crime lab tests the substance.

“Jannie’s alert gave us probable cause to search the vehicle,” NPD Cpl. Shawn Clark, Jannie’s handler, said in the release. “Without her, we might not have been able make these arrests. We’re very lucky to have Jannie as part of the Nixa Police Department.”

NPD acquired Jannie, a Belgian malinois drug dog, in the fall of 2011, the information says. During her tenure with the department, Jannie has successfully alerted officers in several large drug busts including an arrest of three people in May 2012 where officers intercepted a suspicious package.
