On June 1, 2013 ABC News 8 reported on the discovery of Garin Niehaus’s remains in southern Ohio, but this update comes with more news. His mother and her boyfriend were arrested in the state of Ky., and both are facing charges of abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence. The one-year-old child had been missing since December of 2012 (as far as his father was aware), but it is unknown as to how long the child had been dead.
This is truly a disturbing case that is reminiscent of the Case Anthony case. Like little Caylee Marie Anthony, Garin Niehaus had been missing for an unknown amount of time, but was never reported missing. It seems that his body was concealed by Whitney Johnson and her boyfriend Nathan Ritze — who is also reportedly an AWOL fugitive of the U.S. Armed Forces.

The child’s cause of death is unknown, but an autopsy is scheduled to take place. It’s also unknown as to where the child’s remains were found, but it’s reported that officials were seen searching a wooded area in Ohio shortly before the grim discovery was announced. It’s likely that the little boy had been buried, but no sources have confirmed this. It’s also not known whether or not the remains were decomposed badly.
