Nothing has been an effective deterrent for a former Hershey School teacher repeatedly found guilty of collecting and trafficking in child pornography, federal prosecutors said.
During the last 17 years, David Husmann, 53, has been labeled a sex offender, “successfully” completed court-ordered sex offender treatment, and served several prison sentences for his pornographic predilections.

But he’s unlikely to be repeating the offenses any time soon.
Today, the Elizabethtown man was sentenced to 20 years for his fourth conviction involving crimes against children.
Husmann was on supervised release in 2011, when his probation officer made an unannounced visit to his home. Husmann’s mother showed the probation officer to Husmann’s basement bedroom where the official caught Husmann actively watching “child erotica,” said a spokeswoman for U.S. Attorney Zane David Memeger.
Investigators found thousands of photos of pre-pubescent girls in sexually explicit poses on Husmann’s computer. Several of those girls had been abused and later identified by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Husmann’s criminal career began in 1995 when he was convicted of three counts of cruelty to animals. While he was abusing animals, he was also abusing children, according to court documents.
Husmann and his wife were house-parents in charge of supervising several girls at the exclusive Hershey School in Dauphin County. Between September 1995 and March 1996, Husmann downloaded porn onto a school computer and showed it to eight of the girls who lived in his house. During the same time frame, Husmann assaulted two of the girls. He was eventually convicted of indecent assault and labeled as a sex-offender.
He moved to Florida to serve a probationary sentence. In 2002, he returned to Lancaster County to live with his mother and failed to register as a sex-offender. All the while, he continued to trade child porn.
For failing to register as a sex offender, he was sentenced to 51 months in prison and three years of supervised release.
After serving his federal prison time, he returned to his mother’s house and again began collecting and trading child porn. It was during this time that the probation officer dropped in unexpectedly.
In a statement made to the court, one of the victims said:
Pictures of me and my sister are all over the world on the Internet. There is nothing we can do about it now except find the people with them and give them great punishment…. It is very troubling knowing that our pictures are still out there for nasty, sick, perverts to look at. I don’t see how somebody can do that and not feel horrible about it. The pictures they are looking at are of real people. People like me and my sister.
Husmann was one of the first of several cases of sexual impropriety to emerge from the Hershey School. The school is the nation’s biggest and wealthiest boarding school for needy students, with $7.5 billion in assets and an enrollment of 1,850.
In Oct. 2011, another house-parent was found guilty of possessing 700 images and 40 videos of child pornography.
In 2010, the school settled claims of five former students who said they had been sexually abused by a serial molester who gained access to the campus through his mother, a part-time house parent.
In 2007, a part-time instructor was fired after he admitted to having sex with a 16-year-old female student.
In 2006, an English teacher was arrested and later fired after she pleaded no-contest to a charge of corrupting a minor.
