Drug Dog Sweep Man Arrested in Sarasota, FL

A Sarasota Police officer, a sheriff’s deputy and a K-9 police dog teamed up to bust a man who had up to 5 or 6 pounds of marijuana and about $6,000 cash in his car during a traffic stop last week, authorities said.

Officer Sean Gleason and K-9 Hixon were called in to assist the Sarasota County Sheriff’s deputy during the stop at 17th Street and U.S. 301 last Tuesday, June 4.

The police dog gave an alert to the rear of the vehicle, and a search revealed six large baggies of what is believed to be marijuana, according to a police spokesperson.

The car’s driver, 35-year-old Darryl Bernard Brookins, of Bradenton, also had about $6,000 in cash, authorities say. Authorities said they believe Brookins may also be on federal probation for prior narcotics offenses.

Brookins was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell. He was released June 6 after posting $1,500 bond.
