Wrongful Death Stanton Man Charged After Body Found

Police charged a 39-year-old Stanton man with murder Sunday after a woman’s remains were found Sunday in a shallow grave on a Montgomery County farm.

Montgomery County Sheriff Fred Shortridge said deputies and search and rescue crews found the remains, thought to be those of Kayla Kline, 25, of Winchester, who has been missing since July 3, about 10:15 a.m. Sunday on a farm off of Prewitt Grassy Lick Road. Shortridge said an autopsy would be performed to positively identify the remains.

Shortridge said cadaver dogs found the body buried beneath debris in a shallow grave on the farm. Montgomery County deputies began searching the farm after a tip from Winchester police, which have been investigating Kline’s disappearance.

Kline’s family told WKYT-TV in Lexington this month that the mother of two never made it to visit her kids after leaving her home in Winchester on July 3. The family filed a missing person’s report July 6.

Shortridge said that police think Kline knew the suspect, Lonnie Martin, and that they were trying to determine a motive in the slaying. Martin was being held at the Montgomery County Regional Jail, and Shortridge said more charges could be filed against him.
