Wrongful Death Body of Missing Gwinnett Man Found in Atlanta

Gwinnett police took over a homicide investigation Monday after a body found in Atlanta was linked to a missing person case in their county.

Atlanta officers responded to a call Sunday around 3:45 p.m. and found a man’s partially dressed body on the embankment of sunken land near the intersection of Proctor and Tazor streets, police spokeswoman Officer Kim Jones said. The preliminary investigation indicated that the man had been shot several times and his body was brought to that location, she said.

The body found matches the circumstances of a Gwinnett case, Cpl. Jake Smith with Gwinnett police said.

Saturday night, Gwinnett authorities responded to a suspicious activity call in the 6400 block of Buford Highway near Doraville, Smith said. The caller reported hearing screams and gunshots. Officers found blood and a spent shell casing, but no victim.

Detectives believe the victim is a man who was reported missing Saturday, but they are not yet releasing his name, Smith said. The missing man’s vehicle was located near the crime scene.

Gwinnett detectives and the medical examiner’s office are working to confirm the identity of the deceased.
