Drug Dog Sweep Man Arrested in Gilroy, CA

The Gilroy Police Department’s drug dog helped the California Highway Patrol bust a suspected cocaine trafficker last week, authorities reported.

A 31-year-old San Jose man was arrested on Highway 101 north of Gilroy city limits on Aug. 21, police said.


The arrest came after¬†police K9 “Pharaoh” alerted on the presence of a controlled substance within the vehicle and officers found 5 kilograms of cocaine in the vehicle. The drugs are worth more than $120,000 on the street, authorities said.

Gamliel Duran Avelar was arrested on suspicion of multiple narcotic-related charges, police said.
