Wrongful Death Jessamine County Police Ask for Help in Unsolved Murder

It’s been months since crime scene tape surrounded the Jessamine County home where 49-year-old Dale “Monty” Burgess was found shot to death.

No arrests have been made more than five months later, and investigators are asking for help to find the person responsible for Burgess’ murder that remains unsolved.

“There are a lot of pieces that still need to be put together. Without information, we can’t make a determination on what was motive behind this,” said Dep. Anthony Purcell.

On April 5th, a family member found Burgess dead in his home on Elm Fork Road. Jessamine County investigators say the scene provided little evidence to go on. In the days after the murder, they say they interviewed some people of interest and received a few tips but nothing led to an arrest.

“We’re not ruling anything out unfortunately. We are missing a lot of things,” Dep. Purcell said.

Five months later, investigators need the community’s help finding who’s responsible and believe someone may hold valuable information, but might not know it.

“Anything that the public might know or even if they don’t think it’s directly related but somehow it just didn’t set right with them, if they’d give us a call. Let us at least take a look at it,” he said.

The Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office is focusing on any suspicious vehicles that may have been spotted the morning or early afternoon of April 5th.

“Most of the people who live in that area know who comes and goes. They might have seen someone who didn’t belong or something that didn’t set right with them. And now, looking back they think they may know a vehicle description that kind of seemed out of place for them,” Dep. Purcell said.

If you have any information about this shooting, call the Jessamine County Sheriff’s Department.
