Wrongful Death Lexington Man Stabbed Weeks Before Wedding

The mother of a young Lexington man stabbed to death just weeks before his wedding says she doesn’t understand why charges haven’t been filed in the case.

Steven Campbell, 22, was killed Wednesday night during a fight along Mark Avenue. A release from the Fayette County Coroner’s Office said Campbell died from a “stab wound to the chest.”

Lexington Police have labeled this a death investigation. They said they recovered the knife used in the stabbing and they have questioned a suspect but no one has been charged.

“I love him so much and I can’t believe that he’s gone,” Campbell’s mother, Theresa Parker told LEX 18.

“I don’t understand why all of this happened. I just want my son back and I know that’s never gonna happen,” Parker said through tears. “He was such a good kid. He would do anything for anybody. That’s why I can’t understand why somebody would take his life. I don’t understand.”

Campbell’s fiancee, Manda Bentley claimed she was there when the 22-year-old was stabbed. Bentley told LEX 18, “[Steven] was amazing. He was my best friend.”

“I want them to sit in jail until they rot and I will be at every court appearance there is,” Parker said. “You can’t just take my child’s life like that.”

Parker said her family is having a difficult time covering the cost of her son’s burial. Donations can be made to a fund set up at Woodforest Bank.

Campbell’s family has organized a vigil for his friends and family members. That will be 7 p.m. Friday in the field along Price Road near Suburban Mobile Home Park.
