Occupy Eugene identifies missing man

A member of the Occupy Eugene movement helped police locate a missing nursing home patient Friday morning.

The 75-year-old man had walked away from a care facility in the West 28th Street neighborhood Thursday evening. Using the department’s A Child is Missing service, police phoned 1,400 homes in the area seeking help finding the man. Lane County Search and Resuce also was called in, and fliers were posted around the neighborhood.

The man remained missing overnight. Shortly after 9 a.m. Friday, a member of the Occupy Eugene group, which has been holding a protest downtown, spotted a man who resembled the picture on the flier and called 911.

Officers located the man, identified him as the missing person and returned him to his residence.
