Helen Jean Lee, the 78-year-old Arizona missing woman who vanished without a trace earlier this week, is believed to be dead and police have named her 40-year-old grandson as a “person of interest” in the case, according to a Nov. 1 report from the Associated Press.
Jason Howell, Lee’s grandson, was arrested following an unrelated incident of a carjacking and pursuit in Chandler Wednesday. Although he is only considered a person of interest in the Arizona missing woman case, court documents show that he is named the prime suspect in an active murder investigation, and bail was set at $300,000.

It was revealed that Lee was reported missing from her home Wednesday, which is the same day her grandson was arrested in the theft of an SUV from a school, police say.
Police stated that they found evidence at Lee’s home that indicates that foul play was involved in her disappearance. Neighbors notified authorities after they became worried when Lee missed her regular church meeting on Tuesday night.
“Obviously if we haven’t heard from her, the church hasn’t heard from her, cell phones turned off, it’s pretty ominous in my opinion,” neighbor Don Morrison said.
Howell is facing kidnapping and other charges from the carjacking, however, he hasn’t been officially charged in the Arizona missing woman case as of yet.
