Missing Person Body of Northern KY Man Missing for 2 Years Pulled from River

A police spokesman says a body pulled from the Ohio River is that of a northern Kentucky man who was reported missing nearly two years ago.

Independence Police spokesman Capt. Tony Lucas told The Kentucky Enquirer (http://bit.ly/18W0mJ2) that an Ohio coroner confirmed the body found on Nov. 2 is that of Mark Allen Smith.

Authorities said Smith’s body was in a blue 1999 Ford Ranger pickup truck when it was pulled from the river.

The Independence man was reported missing by his sister, Mechelle Wallace, on Feb. 27, 2012, more than a week after he was last seen in the truck at a gas station.

Wallace says she hopes more answers are forthcoming about her brother’s death now that his body has been found.

“I want to know what happened, how he got there, and why did it take almost two years to find him,” Wallace said.

Until the truck was pulled from the river, there was little to explain Smith’s disappearance.

His son, Dustin Smith, said he too wanted more answers.

“It’s tough, but it is the beginning of some closure,” he said.
