A Wichita man charged last month with a sex crime against an 11-year-old is facing new accusations of child sex abuse, this time involving a 6-year-old.
Prosecutors last week charged Erick R. Powell, 29, with aggravated criminal sodomy and sexual exploitation of a child, according to Sedgwick County District Court documents. The sodomy charge, records show, involve the 6-year-old and an act that allegedly occurred on or about Oct. 21. In the exploitation charge, he is accused of “unlawfully possess(ing) a visual depiction” between Oct. 21 and Oct. 30 in which a minor child “is shown or heard engaging in sexually explicit conduct.”

At the time of the latest charge, Powell was in custody at Sedgwick County Jail awaiting his preliminary hearing in an aggravated indecent liberties with a child case. That case, filed on Oct. 31, accuses Powell of the “lewd fondling or touching” of an 11-year-old on or about Oct. 24. His arrest came after a woman reportedly told authorities that Powell had been seen simulating a sexual act with the child.
Powell remained in jail Saturday in lieu of $100,000 bond in each of the two cases. His preliminary hearing in the sodomy and exploitation case is set for Nov. 26.
His preliminary hearing in the aggravated indecent liberties case has been continued until Dec. 12.
