Missing Person Heather Elvis of Socastee, SC

Volunteers plan to continue during the weekend combing the Socastee area in their search for Heather Elvis, who has been missing for more than a week.

Elvis’ family says she was last heard from around 3 a.m. Dec. 18, after the 20-year-old went on a date. Her cellphone gave out its last signal around that time, and her car was found abandoned at Peachtree Landing on Dec. 19.

As of Friday, the search had turned up nothing new, according to Monica Caison, director of the Center for Missing Persons, which leads volunteer search efforts. However, the reward for information leading to finding Elvis jumped from $10,000 to $20,000 on Friday.

Caison said crews are continuing to search the water near Peachtree Landing. There isn’t a reason to believe Elvis is in the water, Caison said, but searchers are trying to eliminate all possibilities.

The search extended Friday to land based on tips, Caison said.

Caison said more billboards went up Friday.

“As of today (Friday) there are 13 billboards up,” she said. “Billboards are very helpful because people may miss a poster or not go into a particular store. Not everybody reads the newspaper; not everybody watches TV. We’re making sure we cover all bases.”

Elvis is 5 feet 1 inch tall, weighs about 118 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information can call 915-TIPS or email crimetips@horrycounty
