A man who pled guilty to killing a Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy was sentenced to life behind bars plus 10 years.
Dewayne Shipp admitted killing Marion County Deputy Anthony Rakes in 2012.

Rakes was shot twice as he stopped to check on Shipp’s car parked on the side of the road. Shipp avoided a possible death sentence by accepting the plea deal offered by prosecutors.
Authorities say Shipp also shot himself and spent several days in the hospital before he was taken to jail.
