Fraud Investigation Man Arrested in Roofing Scam Targeting Seniors

Franklin County deputies arrested a man Wednesday who, they say, was preying on senior citizens promising to do roof work and then taking off with their money.

Lawrence Williamson was arrested and charged with knowingly exploiting an adult.

The Sheriff said he scammed $6,000 from an elderly woman on Tuesday, after telling her he would work on her roof, but barely working on it for ten minutes. On Tuesday, officials say he tried to do same thing to an 88-year-old man.

Deputies said Williamson would walk up to people’s doors with his teenage son and his son’s friends offering to fix their roofs.

He was caught after neighbors called officials about him walking around the neighborhood knocking on people’s doors.

Deputies say Williamson has a history of tryign to work scams in Jefferson County.

Deputies say if you have been scammed by this man or know anyone who has, to contact them.
