Wrongful Death Man Jailed for Death of Missing Idaho City Man

A long-running mystery surrounding the disappearance of an Idaho City man more than six years ago may be closer to a solution: The Boise County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday that a suspect has been charged with the first-degree murder of Steven Kalogerakos.

Michael Stephen Dauber, who last year was mentioned publicly as a person of interest in the missing-person case, was arrested in Nampa Wednesday night and booked into the Canyon County jail on a Boise County hold, according to Canyon County records.

Boise County Sheriff Ben Roeber announced the murder charge Thursday afternoon, saying Dauber’s arrest “is the culmination of an investigation that has occurred over the past six years involving the Idaho City Police Department, Boise County Sheriff’s Office, Idaho State Police and the FBI.”

Roeber didn’t say whether Kalogerakos’ body had been found, and he said the county prosecutor has asked that no further information will be released in the case “in order to protect against any likelihood of materially prejudicing the prosecution of this case.”

Kalogerakos, then 42, was last seen on Christmas Day 2007, according to the Idaho State Police Missing Persons Clearinghouse. He was reported missing in January 2008, according to Thursday’s Boise County news release.
