A man charged with shooting a Morehead State University student to death last March has pleaded guilty in the case.
Casey Shay pleaded guilty to killing Cassandra “Cassie” Owens in her home last March.
Investigators say Shay shot her twice as she slept inside the bedroom of her Christian Street home. The 21-year-old’s body was found a day later. Police say Shay went to the Rowan County Detention Center and confessed he murdered the mother of his child.

Sentencing is scheduled for April 14. The recommended sentence is 38 years.
Shay’s attorney called his client “remorseful,” but didn’t want to discuss the plea.
