Cold Case WV State Police Investigate Man Missing Since 1949

In 1949 Jedson “Judd” Crookshanks left his family’s home in Rainelle to start working as a fire boss in Montgomery County.

Mr. Crookshanks never made it to his new job. In fact, no one heard from him after that day.

For family members his disappearance has been a troubling mystery. His niece, Margie Hume says, “We always figured somebody maybe robbed him or he wrecked or something but, we don’t know that. We just made that up in our minds because he just never arrived.”

Margie, 98-years-old, wants answers as to what happened to her Uncle Judd.

Sgt. Andy Evans has taken on the task of reopening the case. He says,”It’s been very difficult just to research him as a person much less to research him as a missing person.”

There isn’t a missing person’s report for Judd Crookshanks in the State Police archive and all traces of him end in 1949.
