Wrongful Death Murder-Suicide in Lexington Happened in Front of Several Witnesses

New details emerge in a murder-suicide investigation out of Louisville, where a dispute between a couple ended with gunfire Saturday night.

Investigators are still trying to find out what led a man to shoot his wife before turning the gun on himself. The tragic scene unfolded in front of several witnesses, including children.

Police say the shooting happened around 11:15 p.m. at a Thornton’s gas station parking lot in the Shively neighborhood. According to witnesses, the gunman walked up behind his wife. The couple had a brief conversation, and that’s when they say the man pulled out a gun and shot her before shooting himself.

A Lexington pastor and his congregation stopped at the gas station on their way back to Lexington. They say they watched it all happen.

“She was just in and out of the store, talking on a cell phone-he was mumbling on the phone. They checked out right before we did, so we didn’t see any arguments. We heard two shots and that’s when people started ducking, said Pastor Donald Clay.

It’s still very early in the investigation, police still don’t know what the couple was doing at the gas station or if the man followed her there. Police say both the gunman and the victim were in their 40s, but their identities have not yet been released.
