Wrongful Death Body Found in Renton, WA

Police are investigating a homicide after a body was found Sunday morning in Renton.

Police responded at about 8 a.m. after passersby called about a man unconscious in a doorway and bleeding in the 2800 block of Northeast Sunset Boulevard.

When officers arrived, they found a 52-year-old homeless man lying in an alcove at the back of a closed business. The man was pronounced dead at the scene and had obvious blunt force injuries to the head.

“He was injured around the head. There’s a substantial amount of blood,” said Det. Robert Onishi of the Renton Police Department.

A blunt weapon was found near the scene, which Onishi said was likely used in this murder.

Onishi added, “Other homeless people around here talked about another male who might be belligerent, who was camping in the area here.”

Police found him nearby and in talking to him, found that he was connected to the incident.

The suspect was arrested and brought to the police station for questioning.

An employee at the Circle K gas station nearby said that suspect had just been at the store at 6:30 a.m. to buy a beer.

“He came in, he bought the beer with me, and left. I don’t know after that,” said Durga Doksrel.

Doksrel said his boss later spoke with police and shared the store surveillance video to identify the suspect.

Doksrel said the man frequently came to buy beer, as many of the homeless people do. But among all the homeless customers, Doksrel said the suspect was always quiet and polite.

“I was just surprised you know. Because you were a normal customer, now it’s criminal,” he said.

Renton police are not looking for outstanding suspects and the investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information is urged to call Renton police.
