Police say a family argument led to a fatal shooting in Laurel County.
It happened around 3:45pm Wednesday when police say a man shot and killed his nephew.
Deputies lead 61 year old Gary Collier off to jail. He’s charged with the murder of his nephew, 44 year old Stephen Jack Sturgill of Tennessee.
Deputies responded to a home on Collier Road Right Fork after a family member called 911. When deputies arrived they found Sturgill dead on the living room floor. He had been shot in the chest.

“There were three other people in the residence. One was doing CPR on the individual who had been shot whenever our deputies arrived on scene,” said Deputy Gilbert Acciardo with the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators believe an argument between the two men lead to Collier shooting Sturgill with a 12 gauge shotgun. Police aren’t sure what lead to the argument.
“Another man in the back bedroom was brought out at gunpoint and taken into custody for questioning,” said Deputy Acciardo.
A relative at the home called this a family matter and had no comment. Janet Messer lives nearby and saw officers and an ambulance speed by headed toward the home off Raccoon Creek Road.
“When I seen the ambulance go back with no lights on I just thought it was a false alarm,” said Messer.
Instead of a false alarm, one man is dead and his uncle charged with his murder.
“it really surprised me. Just blows my mind that something like that happened,” said Messer.
An autopsy will be performed in Frankfort on Thursday.
